I realized I was holding off posting here until I could get my gallery up and running (as a sort of incentive to finish it), but once it was completed I never came back here to get current on posts. Oops! Gonna fix that starting now...
I'm still filling in the older stuff (currently have back to the beginning of 2020), and one advantage is that everything that's more than a couple years old is unlocked in full resolution for free. Stream recordings are a work in progress, hopefully I can get that in there at the start of the new year.
I'm also making it easy for patrons to access newer stuff, basically you just make an account and then link subscribestar (https://subscribestar.adult/zaush) or (bleh) patreon.
I'll get to updating my gallery here without getting too spammy, maybe do a handful a day until it's all current. That includes my comics here too, and the vault releases, it'll just be the web res I'm posting on the site of course.

I'd say it was contiguous with it, at least the first and most meaningful part of the VCL's lifetime. Yerf, too - more generally, people tended to have their own hosted home pages, rather than it being a profile within the template of a larger site. My home page hasn't changed all that much over two decades in part because I had profile pages here, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, etc.
Of course all our output is on diverse sites too - Twitter, of course, but remember LiveJournal? And more specific sites like here, FA, Flayrah...

Yeah, I remember the LAN meets - before laptops got really popular. I think BBSes were more of a thing in the USA with their free local calls - I only used them once or twice when visiting family in North America. Here in the UK you were paying by the minute even if you weren't connected to a subscription service. Thank goodness for ADSL.

Plenty to be said for the modern era of centralized platforms of course but there's no reason big platforms can't coexist with self-hosted galleries in the artist's/writer's vision!

The reason it's not more popular I think is because there's a considerable learning curve to doing it all yourself, and these services make it so easy to instantly share work and get a following. Downside is that the platform you're part of has all the control over you and you're basically under their thumb

Yeah. And sadly the services/etc that make it easier to DIY your own gallery are the same sorts of companies that might suddenly consider you too-hot-to-handle when you're on the more poorly perceived fringes of fandoms like the cub community is.

The website looks great! What i like the most about is that it isn't white, unlike every single website. It's mostly grey, so it doesn't hurt the eyes. This also takes away the need for Dark Reader (it's an extension that forces dark mode on all websites). It's also well organized and... is that a search function?!
I only have two questions: do you plan to post your older art there as well? And is the art that is there now going to stay there forever or will it eventually be removed and stay only in other platforms (Inkbunny, e621...)?

yes that's a search function.. and 100% hand rolled, i could go on for some time about how its functionality is unique, but i think discovering it for yourself will be the most interesting way to go about it (try shift clicking tags, or adding a - before the tag name. also try using arrows after you start typing some characters to key nav)
eventually all my older art will be there, every last bit of it. i want a one stop drop for all my artwork, since e621 insists on auto blacklisting content arbitrarily and shrinking my catalogue there, muddying the waters with shitty edits i have nothing to do with...
any art posted there is there to stay, and if it's unlocked in high res then it will be that way forever. i suppose if i cease to exist and nobody is paying the bills for my co-location then it wouldn't continue to be there, but that'll be over my cold dead body.

By the way, you're one of the few artists that I want to support because 1- the quality of the content, and 2- you don't paywall your art (everything goes available to everyone after 2 weeks) and you don't do substar/patreon "teases". I hate when artists do the latter, because they come off as greedy.
Unfortunately, I can't right now, because I'm having a hard time finding a job. And it doesn't help that everything in my country is much more expensive compared to other countries. But I will as soon as I can!

I won't be deleting anything from anywhere, I just need my site to exist as a catch all for my art. At some point I'll be adding commenting to the site as well, just need to make sure I have a moderation plan in mind that won't break my back

What I have seen folks do on substar is making pinned posts with zip archives of some magnitude, that way you can present your stuff in a collected post with several zip uploads in the same post (look at Bloodhawk for instance) So you could make a 2006 image file, compress and then upload. Dunno about size limits tho
