Bad news

I'm sorry guys, but I lost everything in a house fire. There won't be any new art in the near future.

Oh my God, I'm so sorry to hear. I know "I hope things get better" after such traumatic events come off poor but... Jeez. I do hope it all the same.

That sucks soooo bad.   I hope nobody got hurt.    You got a place to sleep tonight?     I had a house fire several years ago, I'm still dealing with the aftermath.    Got insurance?
WerewolfDegenerate

It was a few days ago. I wasn't injured, and my dogs are alright too. I spent a few nights in my truck with my dogs, but I got this old sauna as a temporary shelter for now. I should get an apartment within a couple of weeks. It's a tiny student one, which isn't great but it's better than nothing.

Unfortunately, this is also the end of my art career. There's no future scenario that doesn't involve me paying rent, and I can't do that just by drawing stuff. It's just not viable anymore. I need to find a job ASAP. I'm still going to draw every now and then whenever I have spare time, but I don't even have a computer at the moment. I'll get one once the insurance company is done with their bureaucracy.

I appreciate it. Things like that aren't going to change the fundamental problem, though. I mean I'll get a new computer eventually. The house was really old, though, and the insurance company is not going to cover the full original value of it, or anything that would allow me to build a new one. So, every possible future scenario includes me paying rent, and I can't do that just by drawing.

So, this is basically the end of my story. I'll probably try to draw every now and then whenever I have spare time once I have a computer again, but yeah. It is what it is. Sorry guys.

completely understandable, but if there's anything us weirdos can do to help recoup some losses in the meantime let us know. <3

While it sucks that you've lost your house, at least you and your dogs managed to escape unharmed.

How about slapping a used mobile home on the lot after the debris from the old house has been removed? Sure, it may not be 100% ideal but would beat the small apartment you're living in right now and owning even a mobile home would beat throwing away your money by renting. Plus you may be able to slowly build a "real" house and then sell the mobile home when it's finished. Maybe?

I've thought about it yeah, but sadly I live very far up in the north, and it gets too cold for that sort of arrangements. There's also no water or electricity anymore. It's just not an option, unfortunately.

Man, that's very unfortunate to not have water or electricity available there anymore. That fire apparently took out more than only the house. It never occurred to me that it would knock out the utilities to where they couldn't be set back up again, unless it would cost far too much to have it done.

You mentioned that it was an electrical fire. Did the house have knob and tube wiring? That stuff is dangerous nowadays and should always be updated.

Having said that, my old house still has its original wiring and fuses, not circuit breakers. I've never blown a fuse in the nearly 13 years I've lived here, but I also don't overload the circuits since I live alone, well, aside from having a dog and cat.

I'm so sorry that happened.  It's a fear in the back of my mind due to where I live.  I'm glad that you are safe and sound, and I hope you have some support in this time.  If not, I'm sure that myself and others above would like to help you back on solid ground if there's anything we can do.

I found one, and I should be able to go there in a couple of weeks. It's a tiny one, like one of those student ones, basically a small room. Not the greatest environment for my dogs, especially since they've lived their entire lives in the countryside, but it is what it is. Better than living in my truck.

After reading through the thread here, I'm glad to know you and your dogs are uninjured. I'm not sure what services are available where you live, but if you have a voc rehab office near you they're pretty good at helping folks get back into the workforce. I'll be thinking of you and hoping for you.

It's really a stab in the back to the community to have one of its artists ripped away from it. You were special and will be missed D':
You're one of us bro. Maybe there's a furry near that can support you. Or open an account so your fans can donate to you.

So... house fire? Was it an accident with the plug or outlets? Or a fire that spread to your house from outside or other house? If it was something like a bad or old electrical connection, or gas... well, at least you weren't hurt... but then, if you couldn't react to put out the fire yourself or rescue important/expensive things (like the computer), were you out of the house when the incident happened?
I'm sorry, I show my concern and support by taking an interest in that person and offering to listen to their problems. And maybe talking will lead to new ideas, if you live in an apartment building and the fire happened because of the poor condition of something... you could make a claim, you know, or a sue, to recover money.

It was almost certainly electrical. I have no idea what caused it, though. Happened in the middle of the night. I wasn't able to rescue any of my stuff, the fire spread extremely quickly. My old dog was sleeping in my bedroom with me, and I was able to carry him outside. My other dogs were sleeping outside at that time. My insurance company will probably get me a new computer eventually, but that's going to take several months minimum.

I don't have any place to set one up, either. The only apartment that was available is a tiny room, basically one of those student ones, and my dogs are going to need every bit of space that's available. So I'm going to be stuck using a tablet or something like that for a while.

Jesus da fuck. Were you renting?
WerewolfDegenerate
No, it was my house. Gonna have to rent an apartment in the future, and that's one of the main problems really. My living costs will be several times higher, and realistically there's no way to cover that by doing art. I'm gonna have to find another job.

Thank you. I found a temporary place, and it should be ready within 2 weeks. It's just a tiny one, one of those student apartments, but it's better than nothing.

Thank you. Unfortunately, I don't see any way to recover from this one really. If I work hard enough, I may end up where I was eventually, though I'm not going to be able to have another house ever again. Kind of makes it difficult to keep dogs, but it is what it is. I'm still going to try drawing something every now and then at least.

Holy shit. I am sorry this happened to you. We all live our lives as if we were immortals, and everything was safe, but this is the harsh reality. I hope that you can recover as much from this as somehow humanly possible. Not just stuff, but perhaps bis and pieces you are attached to, more than with others. Godspeed!
WerewolfDegenerate

Thank you. Sadly I wasn't able to recover anything. I still had every digital drawing that I've ever made since day 1. I even had backups of them, but they were in the same building. It's all gone now. The house was completely destroyed.

Thanks! I just don't see how to fix this. That place was the only reason why I was able to turn art into a career. In the future, my housing costs will be several times higher, and I can't generate that kind of money by drawing.

Well, I got to do art professionally for a little while. I suppose that's something at least.

I'm glad at least you're okay alongside your pets, I hope you find some decent job and get back on your feet. Losing all that history of your artistic endeavors sucks, but at least youll have some here n there.
