Am I Part of the Problem?

If any of you have seen my gallery, you would know that I have a fetish for adult male characters reading the newspaper on the toilet - particularly with cartoon Dads. I think this originates from the stereotypical cartoon caricatures of Dads - particularly from shows like the Simpsons or Family Guy. In shows like these, fathers are often portrayed as clumsy, foolish, and openly engage in gross things on camera - such as using the toilet. As funny as they can be, they might have gone too far with these stereotypes as they can sometimes negatively impact real life men and fathers.
Cartoon mothers on the other hand, are rarely ever portrayed in these circumstances because they would be seen as sexist and objectification. Even in a show like Bluey where the fathers are otherwise portrayed as positive role models for a change are guilty of this double standard. In the episode "Faceytime", Muffin's mother Trixie is briefly shown on the toilet for less than a second and yet that scene was later deleted. However, in the episode "Easter", they had no problem showing Bandit on the toilet for an entire 30 seconds without being subjected to censorship.
So is it wrong of me to portray several male characters on the toilet? Especially when they're pranked, interrupted, or embarrassed by others(which is a recurring theme with my toilet pics)? I wouldn't feel as comfortable drawing females in these situations but by only sticking with males, don't I contribute to this sexist double standard and continue to propagate negative stereotypes about men and fathers? I'd like to hear your opinions.

I think you're fine, and what you draw is fine too. And in any event, what you want to draw is totally up to you. I'm kind of the same way, in a sense? As female characters are not usually my "go to". I have some exceptions, but my focus is of males. And they NEED to be cartoons. As I'd never make any sort of drawings involving humans, EVER. As that's stooping to a whole new level, that wouldn't be ok with me.

Another thing too is it's not like it's getting posted out in public where everyone can see it. IB is pretty safe & private, which is what I love about IB lol.

Thank you, I have actually considered doing toilet pics of females for the sake for being more equal - particularly one of an adult Flurry Heart. However my sex preferences for toilet pics are roughly 80% for males and 20% for females. As much as I like depicting a cartoon Dad on the toilet being interrupted by his family, I sometimes feel like I'm objectifying men and fathers when I do so. Regardless, I'm sticking primarily to SFW art and while I might do a toilet pic once in a great while, I will try to keep them to a minimum(whether they're male or female).

I've made my fair share of female potty pics before (as a matter of fact, I also have two coming of a female character). But yeah, my preference is exactly the same as you described. 80% male & 20% female sounds about right in my case as well lol.

But anywho, I can understand where you're coming from & what you feel that way. But I think most can understand & separate the difference between real life and cartoons. Cartoons aren't real. Maybe they have their real life moments & show real life scenarios, but cartoons are not real. If someone gets offended by a cartoon, then they need to get a grip.

That's just my take on it though. Again, that's why I'll always stick to cartoons & making artwork (SFW or NSFW) of cartoons. Because it's not real anyways. As again I'd certainly never make any artwork of real life people. I have boundaries & limits lol.

I get it, I'm not really a fan of human characters on the toilet, some cartoon humans are okay with me but I tend to shy away from the more realistic looking humans even if they're consenting adult actors. I think you can go down a very slippery slope if you take that route so if I even do a toilet pic at all, if will be of a non-human cartoon adult. I too have boundaries and I try my best to make sure I stay consistent with them.

I understand wanting to get away from double standards as they do feel wrong. But this particular double standard does not seem nearly as harmful as other double standards, like body image standards and workplace gender expectations. Like if you did a cartoon with a joke based on a male character  criticizing a female character for wanting to get a job that used to be stereotypically considered a male-only occupation, that would be a thousand times worse than what you’re doing.

Also, I literally lol’d when I read your journal because I am a father, and no joke I’m literally on the toilet right now with the bathroom door wide open writing this on my phone. X3 🤣❤️

Funny coincidence there! Good to know that even as a Dad yourself, you're not offended by my artwork. I don't have children myself but maybe someone like you can relate to them better. With all of the different scenarios I've depicted involving Dads on the toilet, I'm guessing you've been in some of these very scenarios in real life.

lol yeah I def fit the dad stereotype when it comes to using the toilet with the bathroom door wide open. I also fit the dad stereotype because walk around the house naked all the time, I’m not ashamed to pass gas in front of family whenever I have to, I make a lot of dumb jokes, and I sneeze extremely loud. I know these traits are stereotypes, but they don’t come off as offensive cuz they’re just accurate at least in my case.

The only dad stereotype that’s bothered me is dads being portrayed as stupid in TV commercials. You don’t see it as often nowadays, but tv commercials especially from the 50’s to the 90’s, would appeal to mothers by portraying their husbands as simpleminded and dumb. That always made me feel bad.
