A promise to my readers.

My promise: BTF keeps the 90's alive, and it's a core tenet to this creative project; we keep it old-school here. You will never see "AI" generated content on this account.

I actually am a fan of the group of technologies known commonly as 'generative AI' and it definitely has fantastic use cases, especially within the furry fandom for people without artistic capacity and large budgets to realize their character designs and produce good reference materials to provide human artists, or to help proofread or punch up text descriptions for roleplay sites, etc.

Simultaneously, however, I wholeheartedly disagree with the idea that content generation using these tools is anything worth asking any amount of money for, or claiming any level of ownership over. This is, in effect, stolen valor from the hardworking artists and writers and other content creators whose data was scraped without their consent to build these models which only put forth a gestural, low-quality mimic of the human craftsmanship put into their training data.

Contrary to what half the world seems to believe currently, AI isn't ready for the mainstream and likely never will be, at least in the forms it takes now. By a function of what it is, its product is going to be something that is effectively the mean of its training data, a smeared average of all creative voices and looks and stylistic choices that are used to train it, assembled clumsily without any true understanding of what it is doing or why. The fact that the whole world is scrambling to find good applications for this tech, none of which are really 'taking off,' is a beautiful example of how much of a 'tech demo' (read: toy) this technology is, versus a finished product.

My readers deserve better than that, and I intend to deliver.

I saw something today where an unnamed person (not an IB/cub writer, but an actual like porn author) was experimenting with some of the uncensored self-hosted LLMs and ...it really hurt to read the 3 paragraphs I saw it output. Yikes.

With a little practice you, too, could write circles around a LLM and probably execute exactly what you want faster than you could build a prompt to get the LLM to create what you're looking for...
