Is Patreon worth bothering with?

I don't think I can post my Nintendo stuff (Midna or Animal Crossing if I do Ankha or Isabelle or something) there or cub, obviously. I made a landing page here and there up a post just to test it: https://www.patreon.com/BCS108/ I originally just made it because Subscribestar doesn't have a convenient "Paypal" option for subscriptions.

I'm not sure if it's worth populating or not? Patreon disallows characters like Spike and Tails, right?

There's always Subscribstar.

I have one. https://subscribestar.adult/buttercupsaiyan It's the main place I dump my art since I can just make two posts and upload them en masse.

I wish I could speak for Patreon in terms of what they allow versus what isn't allowed. That said, I've not yet made my way over to Subscribestar but I do support a number of artists I enjoy on Patreon. Of the ones I do talk to semi-regularly, they have negative things to say about Patreon, but in general seem to enjoy the platform.

I could do some more specific asking around if you'd see value in it.

The short answer is no, the long answer is...well no. Lets say a triggered SJW or just a hater wants to get your account suspended. They create a side account here on Inkbunny, post content that violates Patreons rules OUTSIDE OF THEIR WEBSITE and they say they're you. They then go and report your patreon account, patreon security admins will block your account and tell you that you have content that violates their TOS and that you have to remove it. This is the content that is OUTSIDE of patreon and likely on the fake account which you have no access to. After you fail to "remove" said content they perma ban your account and there's absolutely no possible way of getting it back, your time and effort goes to waste, and so on and so forth. Kindof like Discord and their dumbassery but dialed up to 100

as a NSFW creator for a quick buck maybe, but definitely not for long term.

Fuck no, but if you have the chance to use it...then do it while you are able to but do not dedicate yourself or your supporters to it unless you're strictly SFW or "artistically NSFW [mature] (think non sexual nudity / suggestive)" rather than sexually NSFW [R-18] for they could discontinue your account at any time with the way things have been online regarding TOS and guidelines.

It's like a tip jar at this point with the way things have been going. Aval0nx and Atrolux summed it up pretty well.

What about purely vanilla sex? And do they disable like anon(human)x pony as bestiality? (I don't know how Studiowhy hasn't been cancelled on their dating sim already because of that)

I have yet to see them take extreme action that often on vanilla and 2D like styled art and believe me I've seen more than my fair share of things like Tails and Spike. Those folks tend to just do the liability disclaimer warning of "All chars depicted are 18+ and fictional" sort of thing. StudioWhy and a few others have been doing that for some time. Think of it like how movies always have that disclaimer that no animals were harmed in the credits to keep PETA off their asses.

As for everything else, it is a bit of a grey zone and depends on the severity and realism of the creation. It typically tends to affect AI material that looks a bit too realistic, even when it is obviously based off of a cartoon. In some cases, a warning to simply censor the content more is done...but as the others also said it also depends on who or what is moderating any reports made against you and your content.

That's what makes it a gamble. Smart and legit administration tend to look over such dumb cases made by butthurt and false reports like a judge  in court with traffic tickets verses an automated bot handling the case of which an appeal should be filed.

Summary [TL;DR]: In the end, it's pretty much mostly leaning towards a no for now, but I would still be cautious. Do not put all your eggs in one basket. It is not a big deal until they clearly make it obviously like to a level of what Tumblr did with NSFW that day and Pixiv.

What did Pixiv do?

They increased their restrictions and enforcements on the censorship rule, AUP, and regional access to certain content [hence why folks use VPNs] and started purging user accounts and content they deemed not  censored enough or properly, or things not considered acceptable to their country guidelines no matter how old it was. Still not sure if this was done by actual staff or AI bots and such. They literally targeted an old sketch I made soooo many years ago  that was simple artistic nudity and threatened to have my account suspended temporarily if I did not correct the "mistake" or remove it completely within a certain timeframe. Then came the you're not allowed to view this content in your region" crap and the removal of a lot of users I followed via FanBox because of the effect on paid content

I canceled my Patreon after their string of effups. I've never had a problem with SubscribeStar in five years and they don't give their creators a spiky-speculum anal exam.

Ko-fi accepts PayPal and can set up recurring donations, but AFAIK there's no way to paywall posts, so that would be some extra work to e-mail links and whatnot. (Conoghi is on Fanbox but he still does links this way.)
