Star Rating...

What even is the point of having it? Is there any way of telling? And why no 0-star/no fave rating? That way if necessary you can really express your disdain of a particular image?

I had a friend do one, two and three stars, on three of my own submissions, and I saw a fave notification for each, but with no info on the amount of stars.  I honestly don't think there is a way of telling how many stars someone does.

What do we do if someone posts a dozen different images into a single submission, and we love some of than, and have disdain for the rest.   If we give any stars, the artist will think it applies to all of the images in the submission, even if it doesn't.   If we do not give any stars, the artist won't know that we liked some of them.

It's a very broken system. All I want is to let some individuals know how I feel about a particular subject in some of their art without completely exploding on them. To let them know "Hey, this makes me very uncomfortable." Using block keyword won't help. That's for things that I don't care to see, not things that actually offend me.

It could definitely be improved, but it's hard to complain about features on a site that is totally free to use.

I'm not sure a 0-star/thumbs-down rating would actually be good, as it would likely result in abuse from users.  But, they really could do something about the fake three-star fave system.  What's the point of allowing you to choose one, two or three stars, if the recipient can't see the difference, and you can't even confirm what you chose at a later date?  It comes across as being feature.

I personally don't care much. I always leave three stars, or I don't fave at all. If someone frequently posts images I don't like, I'll eventually unwatch them and move on.

It's very easy for me to complain. I come to this place because it's one of the very few that isn't completely saturated in the things I don't want to see. It's severely traumatic for me, so it's more a necessity than a minor inconvenience.

I hope I've never posted anything that you don't want to see. I don't post images often, but when I do, I try to tag everything as accurately as I can.  I want people to be able to easily find or avoid my stuff according to their own needs.

It probably won't help, but you might want to mention the issues with the star rating system with an admin or something.  Maybe they might be open to making some changes to make it work better. I guess the worst they can do is to say that they won't change anything.

No, I have no issues with the images you've shared. The ones I do have issue with relate to certain individuals. Individuals who have little to no actual presence on this site.

Hopefully, they'll remain on paths that you don't travel.

In one particular case, it's become a severe health issue for me, mentally, physically and, though far less important than the other two, sexually.

The main point is so that you can arrange your own favs as you wish - perhaps more stars for particularly favourite work, perhaps under a system for e.g. commissioned vs. gift vs. third-party work. The stars are shown on the work and your favs gallery, and can be sorted on there. If you use three stars no recording of the number will take place (it's the default).

We don't particularly seek to enable "showing disdain" for art, and actually doing so might well be in violation of the Inkbunny Philosophy of Acceptance, which is incorporated by reference into the terms of service, depending on whether it constitutes harassment, i.e. is it in your own space or theirs, is it done with apparent intent to distress or annoy, etc.

Regardless, i'll probably never use it like that. If I like an image I only ever use the 3*, so that part is moot to me.

Cool.  I've been here all these years and never even noticed that sort box. "Sort by faved date" is something I might use, now that I know it's there. FA always had it, but I always thought it was missing here. And, IB's version is more granular than FA's, making it slightly more useful. I'll likely never use the sort by stars though, so I'll just keep using 3 stars for everything out of habit.

I've never been in favor of sites that allow downvoting stuff, like e621 and such. It's so often used to gang up on people to discourage them from ever posting again. When people don't like something, I'd rather see them using their keyword filters instead.  That way no one's feelings end up hurt. I have a titanium skin for things like that, but many users end up with a ruined day, when they see downvotes or hurtful comments.

Keyword filters do one of either two things:
-Block other submissions that you want to see.
-Fail to completely filter what you don't when other people don't use them (leading to more filtered keywords and more lost images).

And there are more reasons to want to avoid specific images. They might be a traumatic trigger that causes an immediate and dangerous response in a person. They might view a place as this as a haven from such things as again, the person in such an image might not actually be on a site such as this one. Hateful comments are both unnecessary and intolerable, but a downvote system, even a silent/invisible one, gives the message that the image might be a source of discomfort that a simple "pretend it isn't here" won't do.

I personally don't use content or block filters, mainly for the reasons you mention.  Filters work well for some people though. It all depends on one's needs and preferences.

The main thing is to use whatever works for yourself to be comfortable on the sites you use.  And, that can be different for most everyone.
