Snafus

by
Ah, I was wondering when the fuckening would rear its head.
After... well, more than twenty years of dedicated service,  my scanner has given up the ghost. I'm currently figuring out the logistics of getting a new one, but it shouldn't set us back too awful much.
Gonna try and maybe take a stab at actually finishing and coloring something in the mean time.

So, thanks little scanner, you will be missed!

Aaah , pity, and the sad part is that a new scanner will probably not last past a decade... But to be fair, the phone "scanner" apps are surprisingly good these days... Assuming you don't bend your layers like I do

The app results kinda depend on the camera sensor quality in your phone and how much lighting you have. It's convenient but not as consistent as a flatbed scanner.

I definitely agree with you, but as an interim solution, it is workable. I simply cannot bear the idea of an extended Paige art pause again :') (joking of course, everyone has their life to live first and foremost)

I've still got a couple of scans rattling around that needed a bit more attention,  but I'm dedicated to getting it replaced in a timely fashion. ๐ŸฆŠ๐Ÿ‘

Over twenty for a scanner?
Not bad, really.

I can hardly be mad at it, just one of those things. ๐ŸฆŠ

Did you try putting printer ink in?... HP builds combo printer/scanners that require printer ink for the scanner to work^^

Got to love shitty companies^^

Yeah, I used to have a nice flatbed scanner that was easy to transport. Then one day it just couldn't scan anymore, like one of the gears for the scan bar was slipping continuously, so I donated it to my tech school I was attending at the time for Electrical Engineering. If they could figure it out and get it working, then they have a scanner they could use.

But after that... I had to start wit 3-in-1 printers. And the bad thing about that is the company by design outdate them quickly, mostly by the ink cartridges they use. I was getting fed up with the constant obsolescence constantly going on that when I found my Epson scanner, I immediately got it. It's a lot more easy to transport than the flatbed scanner I had originally.

My scanner is so old, I have a Windows XP laptop just to operate it.

Sorry to hear of your demise. The old scanners are way better than what is out there today. You can get a cheap scanner for under $100 or an AIO (All In One :Printer, Scanner, Fax, etc.) for around $150 or less.

I personally would declare war on small nations if my Abaton Scanner gave up the ghost - though I rarely use it except for BIG Jobs! It does Tabloid Scanning in 1 piece (18in x 11in) at 24bit color at up to 900dpi; it was a professional scanner in 1998 with my Mac IIci system. but it does color in multiple passes and almost an hour a pass at 600pdi or higher, 1/2 hour for 300dpi a pass and a few minutes at 72 to 96dpi. It is also SCSI connected.... Thank You Apple & Macintosh! It was a $10,000 scanner then, got it an estate sale for a couple hundred back then.

But for small job still I have an old Mektronics(?) Scanner that does 8.5in x 14in at 300dpi in color in a single pass, again connected to my Mac IIci. and an HP AIO Desk Office Pro for PC and Modern Macs; its no longer an AIO as the printer part died but it still scans (8.5 X 11). New print head for that would cost more than another HP AIO.

Don't know where you live but you know the usual - buy at reputable shops and ask a lot of questions to get the lowest price for the best product, and do not be afraid to tell them "Well this other place has it for a lower price) and show them on the Dumbphone's web browser.

They are weirdly reliable, in light of how printers are the worst thing ever.

What are these people talking about, I haven't been able to find any new good affordable scanners anywhere for years >_>
Mine is ancient too & only works on WinXP(well, maybe once or twice in Win7 but it kept forgetting the drivers or something).
It technically still works but the malfunctions are getting so frequent I'm wary of finishing it off.
Light sometimes flickers, random jams, etc.
That thing had some ridiculous max resolution though, if not careful could overload the system memory, something like 16,000x12,000.

There are some good looking scanners on eBay for ~$25-$45. Given how long these things have been around, I'd guess even these are as good as a $300-$400 scanner from the '00s. Some even boast film scanning capability, so I'd bet they'll do 8.5x11 like a champ.
