The two girls lay in each other's arms, sat on the sofa, not doing anything but watching TV.
"You know," Rachel said, "It's kinda coincidental that my birthday is the same day as your dad's."
Ellie mused on this for a moment.
"Not really," she said. "Isn't there this thing where the chances of people sharing a birthday is quite high? Like, you only need 20 people or something to have two of them sharing a birthday?"
"I guess," Rachel replied.
The two sat in silence for a moment more. It was an advert break, so the sound was muted.
"Besides," Ellie continued. "We're only characters. Somebody created us, so they had to say when our birthdays were. I reckon you've only got the same birthday as Dad because our Creator gave you that date after accidentally giving me a random date in May."
Rachel glanced sideways at Ellie, eyes squinted.
"And then, when our Creator gave Dad his birthday, he decided to give him 30 March as it was the same as the Creator's, given that Dad is pretty much an analogue for him anyway. They've got the same name after all, just Dad has an extra T."
There was silence again. Ellie reached for the remote control.
"Ellie...?"
"Hmm?"
"Has Imogen been telling you how to break the fourth wall again?"
Ellie pressed the 'mute' button on the remote control. "Maybe. Anyway. Adverts are over. Programme starting again."
Sound once again blared from the TV as the two girls started watching, their conversation being documented by their Creator for a slightly random post telling people that it's his birthday on Saturday.
