Do you have Aphantasia?

by
Close your eyes and imagine an apple.
On a scale of 0 to 10, how detailed is it?
0 being you don't see anything at all, 10 being super detailed.

I used to be capable of a 10, able to imagine all five senses in perfect clarity.  Kinda got worse at it in recent years though; uses a great deal of mental energy and I just can't hold up that level of detail as easily as I used to.  One of the big reasons I don't RP much these days.

maybe i'm overthinking this but i think it's 10
I just kept trying to imagine what pieces of the apple would look like, if the seeds were taken out, how old it is, how ripe it is, has it been eaten by a worm? Is it growing old or getting younger?
I just kept going so i think it's safe to say i am a 10

If I do the apple thing, it starts an apple, then zooms out, then an hand, then adam and eve, then a snake, etc.
Some people can see like 4k resolution super crisp, is not my case, mine is like 320 x 240 upscaled.

8-9 for me. Certainly useful for storywriting and RP. Just annoying that there does not seem to be a direct correlation between that and being able to actually put it to paper with a pen xD
What I noticed is that it's an useful skill even outside of arts. I sometimes picture the relation of classes and instances in my mind when developing software. That relation is not even always "visual", it's more of a subtle way of "seeing" additional information that makes up those relations. Maybe that's like when focusing on the texture of the apple or a portion of it, vs the whole apple in a scenery.

Btw. something very interesting that goes in a similar direction:

I imagine a red and yellow gala apple set on a rustic wooden table. Gala is a soft sweet apple.
I imagine it having a stem with one leaf.
I picture the bottom of the apple being slightly narrow than the top.

8-10 if it's an apple.

Now if we're talking seriously detailed backgrounds, 7 at best.  I can imagine the characters and the actions, but the background needs more significance to pop out, think the difference between a fight in a chapel with an emphasis on fighting one's demons (so alot of christian imagery and the significance of the crucifix), versus a gun fight in an alley, with trash littering the floor and graffiti marking territory like dogs piss on grass (how the fuck am I going to imagine the graffiti in different angles and when does the trash have any significance on footing in that place, if at all?).

8-10 easy i can do this with my eyes open or closed.. i just wish i could visual SEE the image as well not just enjoy a mental picture...

I can see how that on demand visual halucinations would be bad;

Red traffic light.
"Awright, I have a green light".
T-bone crash in the intersection.

10, plus, I see all the apples, all the kinds, multiple patterns of spots, the life of hundreds of apples, some became candied, some were eaten whole, other sliced, from orchards all around the world, some were dried and went to space, the lips that ate them, the worms that lived in them, the ciders made from them.

I see all the apples, which apple was I supposed to see? ·—·

Dead 0.
On a good day with a lot of concentration, 0.5.

I can imagine the contour receeding to the horizon, dipping into the stem pit, and interacting with the stem, and then rising up again and around. But, I can't see it at all, and it doesn't translate visually in any way.

9-10 its easy for me to feel the texture of the skin to the moist crisp bit of the apple the subtle hue change of red to yellow to the stems woody texture and a bit of the exuding smell of it. Honestly its easy for me to contruct whole worlds and senses half the time this has been a simple ability of mine since I was a child and generally get much better if I smoke or drink I can just lay down half the time and go to another world if I like. Its still a lot based on mood and ect so still depends on things but this is why I enjoy RP a lot

I wish I could picture more than grayscale somewhat fuzzy looking things. Would be so useful. On the other hand, I can perfectly replay a detailed soundtrack in my head, so there's that. Who needs Spotify lol

0-1. I can imagine the outline, but I can't see it. I can't see color or texture either, which makes things extremely hard to draw.
In rare cases when I'm very sleepy, it goes to 5, but I have almost no control over what I see, and I need to be in the dark to see anything.
Dreams go around 5 too.

Maybe like a 5? I can imagine an apple just fine but not really any crazy detail about it

6-8 maybe. The apple example is a 10, but I think it's just because I buy apples often. Imagining something new and strange to your experience could take more work.

Interesting... For the apple example I couldn't really picture it as I was only going off past experience when I encounter an apple, really looking at it but at able to imagine one of my own. So I would have to give myself a 1

However!... Someone mention rp chatting which I can see almost clearly as day if I'm invoking the motion to said rp & in the Youtube video, people who read fantasy/fiction can see the images their reading which I can do the same. So I would then change my number to an 8.

Extremely spastic in my case and seems directly correlated to how well stimulated I am at the time. Like I've just woken up right now and it's between a 0-3. But there's been times I've done this test and I would have said 5, 8-10, etc. I really think that's part of what makes learning to draw so hard, I don't have a lot of control over my imagination or "inner eye", some days I used to spend hours vividly daydreaming whole worlds. Others I'll sit down in front of the paper and mind will be blank as can be.
