PoorSal's letter to IB regarding AI art

PoorSal is writing an important letter to the admins of inkbunny to try and get some better regulation around AI art. If you're tired of seeing AI art all over the front page like I am, please also consider reading this letter, and contact PoorSal via PMs to be added to a list of sponsors.

Oh, hi. That me. Contact me. Looking for people who have posted in the last four months to cosponsor the letter. Artists and patrons are both wanted!

Feel free to add me as a sponsor to InkBunny House Bill 69§420. I actually haven't seen much AI art at all ever since I added it to my blacklist but I still don't really like what AI generated garbo has been doing to the fandom as a whole so anything to rein it in.

I'm down for it too tbh.  I have the AI art tags blacklisted, and whenever I see some pop up on the front page I just start blocking whole accounts.  It's getting out of hand.

Thank you!! I wish the blacklist worked as well as it should, but I swear a lot of people don't tag correctly. I still feel like every other day I still see untagged ai art on the front page. Even worse when I see it's imitating an artist I already follow. I think most people joining IB don't bother to read the rules and post it untagged, and so it either flies over peoples heads or they just don't take the time to report it

I've gotten significantly less business cause people think my style of art is inferior and think style = quality which is no why true. because they can get "Better" quality my style is obsolete. listen to artist please.

[iconname]Kadm[/iconname] it also pressures artist to have to meet unrealistic expectations of art having to look a specific way. there are amazing artist who can't draw hyper realistic.

I'mma be honest and i stopped reading the open letter halfway thru, good thing I'm not on staff.

My business has so far been unaffected by AI and the only depression in my metrics I've seen were an outlier probably because i posted on the Saturday night of mff (got 1/5 normal views and a way higher f/v ratio).  This ai stuff feels way too much like a post hoc rationalization of some artists' various insecurities, and I hope people find a way to cope with it better without trying to make a lot of extreme demands.

That being said, i wouldn't mind if the popular section got split or filterable by AI assisted or generated status. You're always seeing one popular artist on here using AI in their commissions. The real elephant in the room here is that eventually you're not going to be dealing with low grade hustlers as an anti-AI artist, you'll be dealing with professional artists who have no qualms eating your lunch should the client pool dry up. They may even be training their own AI with pools of their own art as we speak; in fact, I know at least one person who is, and that makes the argument over stolen training data a bit moot for a lot of arguments. I'd argue that a much better way to cope with this is to understand that we're all providing a boutique service to clients. If you commodotize yourself as a product, then of course you're going to feel inferior to (or uncompetitive with) an AI. No, most of us here are providing a service that our clients want us for.

Moreover, as for the popular section, I hope people start proposing better solutions than just the same ol "ai needs to be banned" stuff, but that's just how i feel based on the metrics i see.  Good luck

For clarification:  I am a digital artist and have (heretofore until the time of this posting) have never used AI in my work directly.  I have used 2d refs, 3d refs, and have done mixed media as well as used ai scanning to pose reference models (this is a feature built into clip studio).  I plan to explore AI art more in the future as the tools become more readily available to people of lesser hardware means, but no active timeframe on this. I have not, and have no plans to deceive my clients about this in any way.
