ABDL is valid and Patreon can suck eggs

Context: Patreon has decided that all ABDL content, regardless of age of any models or apparent age of any fictional drawings, counts as harmful content and is hereby banned immediately as of two days ago. A slew of artist have now lost their income source, the content on the site, and any history they had with their patrons.

How many more sites are going to tell us what fantasies are okay and what aren't? This thought-policing insanity is infuriating and extremely concerning. I'm not going to spend my afternoon writing an essay about the myriad of ways this whole situation makes me sick to my heart, but I did at least want to mention it was happening and provide a few resources for folks to pass along to any artists effected by this.

https://twitter.com/AvecLeChocolat/status/1729532871692... - Twitter thread that mentions SubscribeStar as an alternative, and also outlines a bit on how to create your own website and payment processor, if you're looking for a more independent solution.

https://twitter.com/OmorashiOrg/status/1729549790705316221 - An account with a large following that seems to control a very big ABDL Discord, who is offering to shout out artists effected by this event and help them get seen wherever they're moving to. You can also link to your donation page on that tweet.

https://twitter.com/AvecLeChocolat/status/1729852577687... - Another thread for linking to your donation page for assistance.

Reading Star's journal about losing everything just breaks my heart. And moreover, being shown through force that something about oneself is undesirable and invalid is such a low blow. I can only imagine what kink or fringe interest is on Patreon's chopping block next. It's hard not to be swallowed by bitter thoughts as it feels more and more like we're hurtling towards living in The Giver. Grey tones only, happy smiley art only, don't you dare be different!

Art is for exploration, for showing love and hate and pain and pleasure. Humans are not one dimensional happy little creatures, and the art we make is going to be just as twisted as all of us making it. Don't take that away, and don't forget it.

I'm not too sure how people didn't see that coming, patreon has for years been banning people it disagrees with politically updating their tos afterwards, NSFW artists, etc etc - Some of the people who have been banned in this wave (none of the people you mentionned though) sometimes even cheered for it.

I'd recommend absolutely anyone to move to suscribestar, because even if the transition is financially painful, it will be even more painful if said people keep growing on patreon and end up becoming the next target.

At the very least, if abdl stops being a thing on patreon, all the patrons would move there as well, the situation isn't good, but it should be recoverable.
This is going to keep happening on other services as well... I'm not too sure how the hell I'm still on paypal but I definitely don't take it for granted either x_x

Subscribe star is a bit iffy in their review process.

It can take weeks or longer, and I've heard they just don't finish a review if someone has exclusively cub or shota/loli stuff.
RiskItForTheBiscuit

yeah that's entirely possible. I would probably not post exclusively cub content there. ABDL stuff should be fine though

I went to check Star's twitter, and apparently she tried to get a SubStar going sometime last year, but they never finished approving her and won't respond to her. She doesn't even draw cub! So yeah, it seems they are a bit hit or miss in their own way, too.
Tigerfestivals
5 months, 1 week ago
that doesn't really make sense, beacause they allow cub and loli content and many artists that use it primarily draw that type of content

I understand where you're coming from, but it does rub me the wrong way to take an attitude of "they should have known better" when I'm seeing peers and friends rendered jobless with no course of action against Patreon's hasty decision. It's Patreon in the wrong for what they're doing, and Patreon who should be scolded and held under scrutiny; not on the artists for creating things within their guidelines and then getting punished randomly.

And on the grander scale, this isn't just about Patreon, but all sites. This happens a lot, and it's a real problem for everybody, not just the specific people in this specific wave of bans. SubscribeStar might be a viable alternative, but for how long? When they get big enough to support themselves without the riskier transactions behind NSFW art, will they start kicking us out there, too? It feels like a precedent has been set that it's perfectly financially reasonable to do this for sites, and I hate to see it.

(Also apologies if I come across harsher than I intend. This has been really emotionally difficult to watch my friends go through, and I'm trying not to be unjustly reactive.)

It's not really that they should have known better, I certainly don't want to blame victims.
It's more really about the few who praised anything being banned before, or didn't care, them and then became subjected to it.

Patreon has a history of making stupid decisions that end up hurting themselves, I think suscribestar probably won't do anything of that kind without a major push from say, visa, paypal or similar.
Malachyte

Gotcha. Yeah, it's pretty messed up knowing there were fellow artists out there celebrating the bans until it was finally their turn. I join you in saying "What did they think was going to happen?", for sure.

I certainly hope SubscribeStar holds out. I remember when Patreon started; I even knew of the people who started it out, they were really cool seeming people! Patreon swore up and down in those early days that they were there to support artists, of every walk of life. It's hard to trust that sentiment at all anymore when I see it, because it keeps getting walked back. Furry Network did the same thing; they promised that they stood behind cub art back when the site was in beta, and then some big name artists that I can't mention here threw a fit and they took it back and said cub art is bad, akshually. It's pathetic behavior.

Oh yeah no people complaining about cub porn and getting successively boned by patreon, twitter, fur affinity, and so on are definitely the one reocurring pattern that will not stop in the future

There are artists I was supporting for innocuous things like vore but then they started self censoring to meet patreon's ever changing guidelines, instead of just moving to subscribestar, so I stopped supporting them... Also nobody every cried for the cub artists that got axed before them so I don't really know how I should feel here. All I see is less money going to patreon and that's a good thing in the long run.

My twitter was deleted and nobody cares. Inkbunny is flooded with AI and nobody cares. Midwest Furfest says you can't sell fan art and nobody cares XD. What a world.

Some time back, there was a push to block so-called hate speech.  An artist that I liked did a comic in which he advocated it.  I said I believe in Freedom of Speech even if it offends someone.  I also said that even if I disagree with what you say, I'll defend your right to say it.  The next time he posted a page of his comic, I went to tell him how much I liked it and found out he had blocked me.  The reason I told that story is that I want to point out that eventually one of the "do-gooders" will decide that what you're doing is wrong and go after you.  If we block everyone we disagree with, there won't be anyone to defend us when we're attacked.

I feel really bad about the whole situation, but honestly the writing was on the wall. Patreon has continously axed kink after kink. It's clear that they kinda don't want NSFW stuff there. I won't be surprised to see one kink after the other being banned.

Honestly I'd recommend to move to SS if you can and slowly fading out Patreon if you can. That will certainly lessen the pain when you're next on the chopping block. Especially since Patreon never gives a head's up and just axes people.

As I mentioned above in another reply, it feels a bit unfair to chalk this up as something people should have seen coming and course corrected for, rather than shining the ugly light on Patreon and holding them accountable for doing something quite cruel. Yes, it's not surprising this happened, but that doesn't mean it's okay for it to.

Also, I am not on Patreon myself, this is a post about other's effected financially by the situation, not me. I left Patreon over a decade ago.

This absolutely reminds me of that time the Pokemon Fursona people were like "Yeah, FA! Ban those evil Cub Fursona People!" and then FA started going after THEM too and they were like "No! Stop! What are you doing? GET THEM, NOT ME!"

Lol.....

I'm not sure I can properly articulate my thoughts on this at the moment, angry as I am. But to put it simply, the continual suppression of anything off the mainstream or in many cases even remotely adult by companies such as Patreon and numerous others before them is maddening. It not only unfairly paints a picture of those who seek such things as somehow broken, but the way in which these actions so callously rob so many of livelihood is unsettling to any who rely upon any such source of income. I am so sorry for those who have lost their income. I don't know this person at all, but I feel for them. I hope they can find a method which will help them recover and feel fairly safe and stable.

Not my thing, but.. ugh, seriously? This is getting beyond a joke, now. What's next? Bondage? Public sex? Not on my Pure, Christian Patreon!

I'm reminded, once more, than OnlyFans has a ban on anal. ANAL! Underage I can understand. Beast/feral I can understand. But, this ban list of kinks and fetishes, that HARMS NO-ONE, is getting longer and longer, and it's just stupid. Next thing you know, they're going to be tumblring themselves into oblivion. smh

I believe that word on the street is that fictional incest is next to be targeted by Patreon. Get ready for all your favorite media to start specifying that they're all step-siblings, I suppose...

And are you serious about OF banning anal? That... that can't be XD That literally sounds like a joke, good lord

Patreon banned incest ages ago. And as far as I am aware, that is true about OF.

Yeah, I don't hang out on twitter, bluesky or anything, so getting a quick overview was appreciated :p
The whole situation is a shame, but also not too surprising.
I've mostly hid that side of me, as there is a lot of ignorance and assumptions around ABDL, and the P-word gets tossed out quite quickly at times. I've felt incredibly dumb for using babyfur pieces as a pfp on telegram in the past, felt like a huge mistake

Patreon has been flighty and unreliable for about as long as I can recall, nobody should be using it without a backup in place.  Doubly so for anything even remotely fetish related.  If Jack the random Patreon manager glances at your page and sees a bunch of people rolling around in diapers and baby clothes, you can bet you already have a strike against you when it comes time to decide whether they want to be providing services for you.  People get used to fetish-friendly environments like IB and close-knit communities and forget that Patreon isn't run by fetish-friendly people.  Even pretty vanilla furry stuff is probably on thin ice there.  Just like you shouldn't show up to court about your parking ticket in a fursuit, you really should read the room for your professional relationships.

Makes me wonder if artist abroad will need to make their own websites. Although this might be a blessing. Webpage programmers will be needed and the carear will become in more demand. Even if ai is available. Artist will choose non-ai small business type programmers.
Malachyte
5 months, 1 week ago
It does seem like, currently, that is the natural progression. But it sure isn't easy to host adult content on your own site... Perhaps it will get easier as more and more artists try to find ways to make it happen.

Free resources and donation type funding is becoming much less reliable. If not.... a dying market due to ad-space being a bigger money maker for websites. I am not saying we should abandon free resources such as InkBunny and other art communities. Rather that we should create our own websites so we ourselves can make decisions and not just rely on Patreon, Youtube, or this community "InkBunny."

If we have our own websites we can decide on how we artist and crafters can sell adspace should our popularity make it possible. Not to mention real art theft and cut throat of big companies. Not just immitators, but companies big enough to copy right our art if we fail to do so. Which means that ad-space becomes a necessary evil.

I am a janitor at night. I put very little of my Characters online. My plan is to save up for one copyright at a time. If your only doing art commissions then you will only need to copyright your fursona as an icon for a small business type thing. Then your reputation would just carry over. What ever money transaction thing you choose to use does not need to be different. Just that your platform you create is not restricted by the art communities. You just need to keep internet ethics in mind and keep things legal.

Just my thoughts. I plan to make my own website eventually.

I cannot fucking believe we're still fighting to give people money for drawings. Really thought that'd be a solved problem, by now.

The one that blows my mind is incest. It's literally not visible. Fictional characters being related can only be an informed attribute. It doesn't exist unless you say so. Nobody can look at the image itself and go 'I don't want to see that' or 'that is clearly a minor.' It is censoring pornography based on backstory.

I can only imagine what kink or fringe interest is on Patreon's chopping block next.

It's pretty much been Patreon's MO this entire time to bait-and-switch types of content. The whole reason Patreon became big in the first place was because of hentai/porn/cub/political topics/etc. and Patreon embraced it with open arms until Payment Processors (Visa, MasterCard, AMex) started saying "We don't like this get rid of it or we stop processing transactions." And Patreon capitulates. A lot of companies do.

The true final boss are these payment processors that can rid you of your pesky ability to earn income off of less-than-savory transactions. So they become concerned not with facilitating transactions, but with the what the transaction is for. And this goes waaaay back to even before the days when FA's payment processor did this to them over cub.

Which is great because like, how do you fight back against something that can just. Prevent you from being able to purchase goods and receive funds?
Malachyte
5 months, 1 week ago
Exactly, yeah. I've been along for the ride since the start of Patreon, watching them use adult art to get a foothold and then turn it away bit by bit to "cleanse" their site on behalf of the mighty Companies. It's a damn shame.

A sad truth, and there are even more to add to that list. Hypnosis fans were kicked out of Patreon years ago, and no one gave a damn then, either.

My hope is that all these kicked out niches will realize that we need to support each other more, not just dig down into further and further separate niches.

I switched over to Subscribestar for my adult stuff specifically because I wasnt allowed to post my ' consenting adult spanking' art. Patreon's been really strict in the passed year and it's quite frustrating. The extra censorship thats been popping up everywhere is kind of scary.
