Myth/Fairytale/Story - Trying to figure out references

Since a long time (9+ years) I have a story (non-porn) in my mind. I have been influenced for it by many sources. Some I know, but some I have forgotten and thus I fear the idea I had may be simply a story that has been written already so I wanted to ask if the setting below sound familiar. I'll let you know what kind of inspirations I know of.

Setting is this:
In this world every animals is sentient and can talk with other all other animals. Humans on the other hand can't (or most humans can't).
The reason for this is, in the beginning every creature could talk with every creature. And every creature would have a special power. For example a cat can see through any kind of disguise/camouflage.

Humans back then could see into the future. And apparently they didn't like what they saw, so they asked the creator to get a different power. The power to create things on their own. The wish was granted and the humans began to build cities and tools and weapons. And as this escalated the creator took their voice (aka the ability to auto-talk with everyone) to keep them in check. And so they lost the mythical connection and the cultures and languages developed. Still humans did conquer the planet this way and nowadays this back story is long forgotten (by the humans). But there is the rumor they knew about all this and planned it that way.

These are the inspirations I know of:
Cat that sees everything - Last Unicorn. Quote: "No cat out of its first fur was ever deceived by appearances, unlike human beings, who seem to enjoy it." (Discworld also sort of qualifies since cats can see Death).
Humans and power to create - There are some parallels to bible and sacrificing something mystic for getting knowledge and stuff.
See future - Fantasy film. The Cyclops there could see the future, but only their own death. Forgot name of the movie.

All in all it rings too familiar in my mind and I have this nagging feeling someone has written something along those lines already, but I can't remember for sure.

The story I wanted to write in this setting was about a young human (gonna use male for now... not sure about gender), trying to get famous/rich by killing a dragon (while it is sleeping). Of course it fails and the dragon is so bummed out by the ignorance of the humans (painting them as the bad guys when they were living here far longer and just defending their home turf).
Thus she (dragon is female) turns him into a dragon as well to let him experience how it feels to be haunted and hated.
Unlike an adult who can defend himself quite well, he's a little baby dragon with no fire breath or flight (16) years is still baby-age for a dragon). So he is trying to adapt (running for his life) and meets some animals in a barn, where he spends the night.
And all of the sudden he hears the animals talk (since he is no longer a human). They chatter about why a dragon would come in here and all that when the cat suddenly speaks up blurting out he is in fact a human.

That is how the story comes to the point of explaining the setting. The animals explaining each has a special power and stuff. And they let it explain by the donkey, who's special power is to remember his past lives. Thus he can remember back to the very day of creation itself. They act as the heralds of animal world, remembering important stuff for generations.

I have not decided about other animal powers yet but I had some ideas:
Horse - Sense danger (they get nervous before earthquakes and volcano eruptions... but many animals can do that)
Cow - See into the past. When they are lying and chewing they are actually watching the past.

I have also not decided if every animal should have a unique power or if some can have the same.

(Btw. I'll also take suggestions for animals & their powers ^^)

The movie about the Cyclops who can see his own death is called KRULL.
And this story idea you have may very well have been written by someone
but that doesn't mean you can't do yours. The best thing to do is write YOUR
story. I guarantee you THAT one hasn't been written yet. :)

Ah yes. Krull ^^

While I could say how great it is I'll instead generate a couple of questions to think about. Though such things may only complicate stuff.

"And as this escalated the creator took their voice (aka the ability to auto-talk with everyone) to keep them in check."
How would not being able to talk to other animals keep humans in check? And as you said it in fact doesn't keep them in check at all.

they say a large part of communication goes through non-verbal means, and humans seem to communicate with other animals fairly well, they just can't speak the same language... what about that?

"Thus she (dragon is female) turns him into a dragon as well to let him experience how it feels to be haunted and hated."
wouldn't that mean that she sinned against your world's god by going against his will and giving the the human what the god took away?
plus, that assumes no humans ever feel haunted or hated by anyone, which is a very flat perspective. If you want depth, then you need a deeper, more serious perspective.

Well when they lost their "voice" they lost the ability to understand anyone automatically, even each other. Thus they had to develop languages first and by the time this happened the original humans (that had looked into the future) had died of old age. Thus they couldn't tell their heirs what the future would bring. They did try of course, but since languages were still in development the messages turned into the cryptic prophecies of today.
Taking their voice threw back the development by hundreds if not thousands of years.

Sure you can learn body language, but it will never be as good as right out instant understanding. Many veterinarians wish they could ask the animal patients where it hurts.

I didn't wanna use the word god, cause it has so many implications of an intelligence working with intent. The creator in my story is probably long gone. He created stuff, watched it a little bit then got bored and moved on. He/She/It does not really care about the world (except in the very beginning).
He may have been a baby-god "Look! baby's first creation." ^^

Of course humans hunt and hate each other too, but the dragon doesn't know this. In her vicinity are only farmers that invaded her land she has lived in for centuries. There are robbers and murderers but they kill for reasons other than species (Money, Revenge and such) but dragons do fight with each other as well.
She just wanted to teach him a lesson for trying to kill her in her sleep, by turning him into a sort of helpless dragon baby. She expected that he'd be killed sooner or later by the humans, making it quite ironic.

I very much like the idea of this story. I am always enjoying stories where there is a transformation to teach a lesson hehe. Maybe bunny/rabbit has the ability to give good luck :)
