An Atheists Observation on Abortion

Greetings Everyone,

So I was actually planning to do a big journal response to Ben Shapiro's anti abortion argument because I was getting annoyed hearing him talk about it so much. However I don't like to 'take a side' on that issue and since not a whole lot was going on with the topic, I figured it would be okay anyway. People were calm enough on that topic.

(LEAK HAPPENS)  well damnit.

So I'm just stepping back and watching. No need for the Drama but, I thought it might be fun to throw out a little thought from your local Atheist. So here we go.

With regards to Abortion, isn't it interesting that when God does it people call it a Natural Miscarriage, But when Humans do it, it's Intelligently Designed.

Discuss. :P

Here’s where I’m at on abortion currently (I'm a theist, by the way):
Through the first trimester (12 weeks) I’m okay with it. Three months is enough time for somebody to decide if they want a kid.

After that if the mother’s life is in danger.

Also, tangentially related opinion:
Conception preventives should be available to everyone subsidized by our taxes.

Regarding Contraceptives, they really should be available. :D  but I'm not so sure they ought to be subsidized by taxes. Just look at what that's done to Medical costs or School costs, lol. But that's another discussion. :P

I just chuckle how Humans doing Abortions are intelligently designed, but when God does it (whom does it far more than humans ever have) it's "Natural"  even though life begins at conception.... (coughs)  xD

Yep, totally get that. Probably the best thing overall would be to fix the economy so people actually get paid what they're worth and at the same time products cost close to the actual cost of their production, esp. for essentials. 20% profit targets anyone?

And yeah, reading back through your post, I see that the discussion you want to have is slightly above my level. (You didn't want individual opinions on abortion per se, but rather a discussion about whether it's okay for God to terminate a pregnancy vs whether it's okay for the one who's pregnant to terminate it, if I'm understanding correctly?) And, yeah, I'll have to think on that for awhile before I can decide how to figure my position on it. (I tell people I'm clever, but it takes awhile...)

It's a less serious discussion to be had :P  Hehe.  It's hardly a complicated one. :P

half of conceived eggs pass naturally without people even knowing, round half of those eggs that set naturally end up as miscarriages. Yet when abortions are done by Humans, it's an Intelligently Designed Medical Procedure :P  (If you are pro or against abortion doesn't change that it's a procedure, designed by the intelligence of human beings.) :P

First off, Margaret Sanger - 1939

Secondly, the purpose of sex is procreation, if you're not intending to have a child, there are means to prevent that, it should not be something that's an afterthought.

Finally, I'm under the general impression that most abortions are coercion's to, "get rid of it.".

You know, that's not the trash.

Hmm, another person not reading the journal. (chuckles)  Here we go...

I don't care who Margaret Sanger was, arguments stand or fall on their own merits. :P

"...the purpose of sex is procreation" Yeah, and so is dying to get out of the way. lol. What does that have to do with the topic? xD

"Finally, I'm under the general impression that most abortions are coercion's to, 'get rid of it.'."

Coercion? Some people genuinely don't want kids lol. Hardly coercion involved. Some get pressured, some do not. The Human Factor is a real thing in the lives of people whom choose that route. However, again, nothing to do with the journal. lol.

My suggestion is to calm down.

I believe that everyone can have an opinion but with respect to one that is a sensitive issue in society since you kill a living being

Well depending on how you look at "living being" scratching an itch is killing potential living beings. A few cells are considered a 'living being' especially if you add it the possibility of cloning technology. If we are considering any living cells as a "living being" or living cells that have the potential of becoming a "Living Being" this forces some consideration.

Also I was just poking fun at Religion :P  nobody responds to that lol.  aw well.
