Good morning!

Or whatever time of day it is where you live. Currently morning for me. Quarter past nine.

Just popping by to say hello, now that I finally figured out how to write a journal. Only took me a bit over a year to figure out, but no worries! I'm sure I won't forget!

As my profile states, I occasionally draw stuff. Reason it doesn't happen often is because I'm very much an "in the mood" kinda artist; I have to be in the right mood to sit down and draw something and that mood doesn't come often. Which is fine for me, as I won't have to stress about getting another piece out before the end of the week due to obligations and whatnot, but it does mean that uploads are pretty sparse; The piece you can see on the left is roughly 4 years old and I uploaded it to FA 3 years ago, so yeah. Sparse. I hope you still find them enjoyable nonetheless!

I do also play around with making Garry's Mod scenes. I've been thinking about putting them up here. Could be a good way to fill the space. It's also easier and less obnoxious on IB with the image set function, but that's still on the contemplating table. I don't really know the general opinion on GMod/SFM stuff, so feel free to give your thoughts. I'm a good listener most of the time.

Either way, hello to the five people who are watching! Hope you enjoy your time~

P.S. Gmod instead of SFM, because I need the ability to yeet myself into space on occassion. You know how it is.

Welcome to Inkbunny journal-writing! I hope you enjoyed it.

With regards to Gary's Mod, it might be good if it's relevant to the topic of the website? Obviously, it a good idea to credit any who made models used within the piece, as it becomes a derivative work.

An administrator! That makes things a lot easier! Thank you very much for the welcome!

I was more pointing towards the general opinion about it; I don't want to ward off people by making something they will see and roll their eyes at for being... I dunno, lazy? I'm usually pretty strict about things like crediting artists and whatnot, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

That opens another question, though: How would that pertain to unedited models from franchises such as say, Pokémon or Mario? I've seen a few pieces here using those. I figure it'd be pretty difficult to get Nintendo's permission, so how would one go about that when it comes to the rules about derivative work? Would that fall more under the "fan art" section seen in the Ownership rules?

Yeah, that's basically how we treat it - fan art of a commercial character. To be honest, such companies tend to only care when people start to compete with their licensed work, which can be the case for some real-life statuette models (which also should not be sold here, as they're fan art), but is unlikely for the kind of work usually posted here. It's literally not worth their time, and causes more hassle than it's worth, especially considering IB's an adults-only site.

You say "unedited models", but I don't know precisely what that means with respect to these models. If someone actually did meaningful work in translating the model from one format to another, they probably deserve some credit as well when it is used, even if the model itself is primarily a derivative work. (Realistically, none of the staff are 3D experts, so we don't have the background to say for sure when this is the case, vs. someone modelling their own version.)

By "unedited", I mean taken straight from the game without any modifications. An example could be this piece. These models haven't been modified and look exactly like they do in the game they came from.
Of course, "ripping" a model from a game does take quite a bit of effort in order to have them workable for animations, posing and whatnot. If it's uncertain, I can definitely put in a credit to the one responsible for converting them for use in Gmod/SFM to stay on the safe side. I do know their name, so it wouldn't be difficult to add.
