Cub and IB: Awkward Situation

As you know, my Style it's easily mistaken with Cub, but not all my pics here are Cub.
Now there's some people who's telling me how to tag my submissions.

I've a better idea: lemme take the choices about my stuff.
I'm the one who decides if my character is Cub or not.

If somebody can't deal with the existence of something called "The Cute Style", I'm very sorry.
I'll edit everything properly after deciding if I stay or not in this site.

Hehehe, well spoken, very well spoken on that one. Here has been a LOT of people over time that get on artists because they're told their art is of cub when, cute although it may be, it's not cub and some people can't seem to wrap their brains around that.

Hmm, lets see:

1. YOUR artwork
2. YOUR decision to upload it
3. YOUR decision what text to put under it

That means: it's THEIR decision what tags are used. ^^

Ok, seriously, if you want to use the tag, then use it. If not then not. Don't give a sh*t about what people want you to put there, unless you're asking for it.

My two cents.

"Their Decision"? Of who are you talkin' about? Admins? I don't have any problem with admins...

I was talking about a new group of people who already has found something to use against the Artists X3
Isn't the Cub Ban from FA enough? Why there are people who needs to be a nuisance with this "Tag Stuff" here and now?

I think he is being ironic in that statement. At least I hope so...
Shokuji

I think he's saying that it's silly for them to think it's their decision considering it's your artwork, etc, etc. At least that's how I read it.
Violetmew

Like the other two were saying: that was irony and i was talking about "some people" you mentioned.

Don't take it too seriously. ;)

Some artists are in the same boat, they're using some alternative keywords like "cub?" which I thought worked. Perhaps there's some other keywords that would work? I wouldn't take offense, they're the ones with the hang-ups. Just make sure you're keywording your submissions properly and ignore them, I guess.
Shokuji

Also, @starling would probably say that it's up to the artist what they are. If they (the ones who are crying 'cub') don't like what you draw they can block your submissions from showing up on the site (for them only). I'd say just let them do that.

That Block for Certain Kind of Arts it's really good :3
They should use it on me if they don't want to see/share/understand my Vision of Cute Furry Art :p

Thanks :3

Yes, I've mentioned this because my page isn't the only one with "Tag your Cub" shouts or comments. I saw the same nuisance on some of my fellow artists pages too. I consider it a nuisance because I didn't came from FA to deal with this :3
As I said on the last line, I'll tag everything properly after deciding If I stay on this site or not.
Then, the Cub pics will have Tags and Thumbs, but I won't tag my "Cute" pics as "Cub"; people needs to learn the difference.

For all other unpleasant things, well... We have the Block Option and the Delete Comment option :3

Exactly. So please don't go! *clings to your leg* It will smooth out eventually. I think that some users are a bit annoyed because of two things that are (were?) going on generally. (1) There has been a cub flood from FA, so it's been pretty much non-stop cub stuff and that art (that really is cub stuff) wasn't getting keyworded properly. (2) Keywords have been a bit of a hot topic lately because a lot of users weren't giving their submissions any keywords at all. The latest update should really help with this so, again, just give it time and things will smooth out. =3 *hand-cuffs you to the site* >:3

The problem is, If you don't tag your works as "cub" (Even if they arn't) then people who do not want to see the chibi style easily mistaken as cub that your works are will just block all of your works.

It's not about your perception, It's about the perception of your audience.
Shokuji
13 years, 4 months ago
Then isn't it their problem? ^_^; (that's what you're saying, right?)
Kupok

It is strange.. The tag system is a community concept. It is there so works of a certain interest can be eather found, or blocked easily. There's is really no benefit from not tagging something because in your imagination the tag does not fit on a technicality.

I think what's possibly happening here is that artists don't want to admit that their character is any age. Perhaps it's because of the laws of where they live or something like that. Characters in art only have an age if the artist chooses to give them one. Otherwise it's up to the viewer's imagination. Perhaps you could help think up a alternative keyword that says "this may look like a cub, but it's not" so artists like FC here can tag it w/o worrying. =3

Oye, me gustó eso del "cute style", lamentablemente hay personas que se confunden, y antes de averiguar, gritan... mal por ellos! Tú postea lo que tu quieras!

who are you trying to fool with your "My style is cute, not cub" thing? your characters look like cub to me, even if your tell otherwise. even not "look like": they're it. of course, each one his opinion. mine is just that this is cub you draw. accept it.
anyways, i'm not here to deal with this neither. fortunately IB did a good thing by allowing users to block keywords and submissions,
Shokuji
13 years, 4 months ago
That's the issue, actually. The artist would know if something is actually cub or not. If it's not a cub, it's not a cub. (I remember a time where someone was trying to tell
Lando
Lando
where his characters were looking on the cover of Softpaw #2.. which is silly considering that Lando was the one who drew it!) But, I can see how people could get mistaken. That's why I'm trying to figure out some keyword that people could use to tag their 'looks-like-cub-but-isn't-cub' submissions. Got any ideas?
Kupok

I do have an idea!

"cub"
Shokuji

But FC has said that his art isn't cub. What now?
Kupok

That is why I feel tagging should be helped by the community.. Not just for this situation, but for situations in which the artist is simply lazy and does not tag :)
Shokuji
13 years, 4 months ago
Don't worry, community tagging is on it's way after the sales system is updated/fixed. That way artists can wash their hands of it. =3

What about "cute"? That could encompass both cubs and cute adults, since both are "cute."
Shokuji
13 years, 4 months ago
But 'cute' is used by a ton of people and not for the reasons we're talking about. ^_^; I'm thinking more like "cub-style", "cub-like" or maybe something more like "not-cub". Any ideas?
Bledar

What do you think of kawaii?
Shokuji

It's a Japanese word, but I'm not sure if it really conveys the meaning that we're looking for. ^_^;
Bledar

What about neotenic? In biology it means when an adult animal has juvenile features like big eyes, etc. I know it's a weird word but hopefully it fits. :3
Shokuji

That sounds fantastic!

Now... how do we get people to use it? ^_^;
Bledar

Just tell them to block your submissions.  They just go to your userpage and click Block Submissions.  It's like the keyword filter, but applied to a specific member.

Even though your stuff looks like cub porn, ultimately you're the one who determines how your stuff is portrayed.  Some of your stuff seems to be more tiny "feral" creatures (that is to say not humanoid) than cub, but the small nature of the characters can lead to confusion.

But like I said, they can just block your stuff completely.

Whiney bitches are whiney. I hope you don't choose to leave. I for one appriciate both your cute style and your cub art. Keep up the awesome work!

Keep in mind even "correct" use of tagging may not save you from complaints. Over on FA I actually had someone whine about my jackal cub t-shirt picture. It was tagged cub and also had a huge warning label for a thumbnail, but one of his idiot friends linked him directly to the picture, bypassing all of that. He whined about it in comments.

Months later, out of curiosity I had a peek at his account only to find he was now faving cub art...

That last bit not really relevant, just amusing.

Maybe a "chibi" tag or something. To dispell the confusion? And yeah they can block you as a user and be done with it if they find themselves unable to tell the difference between a cute chibi adult critter and a cute cub critter.
DeadEyeJoe

I second this. I'd like to think that most furs would know what chibi means.
ruink
13 years, 4 months ago
the reason it's mistaken like that is because you draw small animals.  I can tell the difference personally, but most of the lot can't when it comes to your work.  I hope you do stay, because moving to other spots will too frustrating for you

There are a lot of good points here, but it's hard to find a solution that really works. I'm tempted to say that Internet might not be a suitable place for a person who's easily disturbed by things they see, but I would prefer finding an actual solution that is convenient to both artists and viewers.

I'm personally exited about community tagging, but at the same time it worries me a bit; I'm sure there are artists who don't like the idea of their works tagged as "cub" when it contradicts their own view. After all it really should be the artist who has the last say on that matter.

Some alternative tag might be ok to avoid the uncomfortable labeling, but it should probably be configured so that when "cub" tag is blocked, the alternative would also be blocked automaticly.

Whatever the solution that will become standard or your personal choice is, I hope you will stay at Inkbunny. <:3

Damn, that's so annoying. I like cub, but since when do big eyes make a character a cub? It's just silly. Maybe you should tag your images as 'cute'. Then they could blacklist the 'cute' tag, but it's up to you. ;)

You *could* at least give your stuff a cub-ish sort of tag. "Borderline cub" - or indeed "chibi" - or something. I mean, come on, you can't tell me they look like adults. Until then, there's always the artist block feature, I guess, which I'm gonna be using.
