Let's Discuss: Cartoons (and cartoon diapers)

Well the last journal got a surprising response, I was really happy to see so many people respond. It also really helped me narrow down what I should focus on as my biggest flaws in my art, and motivated me to definitely take some time to work on them (and make time to do so).

For this one I want to have a little more of a fun discussion, and a bit more open ended. Let's talk about what cartoons you like the most, and what impact they had on your life. Some other parts of the topic can include what your favorite cartoons were as a kid, what cartoons had ABDL and/or furry influences on you, cartoons you've seen recently that had diaper-related scenes, stuff like that. Also yes, I do consider anime to be cartoons, because they are.

For me, my favorite cartoons as a young kid were The Real Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, Scooby Doo, The Simpsons, and of course every Disney movie (yes, including the princess ones). When I was around 9 or 10 Pokemon became the big thing, and that show, as well as the games and cards, had a huge impact on me. Later on, when I was a young teen and had cable, I watched more cartoons than I even did as a kid, stuff like Rugrats and Spongebob, Angry Beavers, Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog... pretty much the channel never left Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. I also got more into anime, thanks to my highschool's anime club and Cartoon Network's Toonami, so I was watching DBZ, Inuyasha, Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop among other things.

I think my biggest influences were definitely as follows: Pokemon, which really just captured my imagination and amazed me with it's mix of cute style and unique little monsters. Digimon and Monster Rancher had a similar impact for similar reasons, but Pokemon was the big one. Rugrats, which definitely struck a cord with my at-the-time unknown AB side, making me imagine what it would be like to be babies like they depicted in the cartoon; young and naive yet more aware and mature than babies would actually be at that age. Disney's Robin Hood, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Animaniacs, Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, and tons of other shows that portrayed anthropomorphic characters absolutely played a huge role in me realizing I was a furry, possibly even shaping me to be one. Trigun and Inuyasha were a major influence on my early drawing styles, although Pokemon was the first by a few years I didn't really start drawing until around the time I watched other anime. Hell, I didn't realize Pokemon WAS anime until around that time, as a younger kid it was just another cartoon.

Once I started realizing I had an interest in diapers (though not why) I was always pulled in by any cartoon that had characters in diapers, but especially ones that showed the diaper being used. I think the fact it was almost always in a comedic setting is really what set me down the path of loving that trifecta of comedy, cartoons, and diaper-usage. To this day I still hunt down scenes from cartoons like that, out of a literal fetish in the sense it's more an obsession than for any particular reason. Though obviously ABDL is a sexual fetish for me now, it's been a weird obsession for me long before that, and cartoons absolutely helped me realize it and irreversibly linked the two things in my mind forever.

Whew... this turned into WAY more of an essay than I intended, but I guess long story short cartoons had a huge impact on my life. When life sucked, I still always had cartoons to fall back on for a laugh, when I was confused about my interest in diapers cartoons were there to satisfy my obsession, and when I started drawing of course it had to be cartoons. Once I found other people like me online, which happened at probably too young of an age by today's standards, I finally started to understand and come to grips with being ABDL, but I don't know if any of that would have happened without searching for "cartoons in diapers" in that Yahoo search bar all those years ago.

Hm.  I don't know how much I connect cartoons to diapers, since other than like, Rugrats, I don't think they were that connected to me.  I loved a wide variety of shows.  Pokemon, digimon, yugioh, inuyasha, dragon ball z, spongebob, powerpuff girls, ed edd and eddy.  Just too many to list.  Heck, I still love new cartoons if they catch my interest.

I do recall seeing certain episodes of cartoons featuring diapers at some points, but I didn't ever really connect them and most of what I thought of diapers was done with my own imagination.

My impact on becoming a furry I think has more to do with the stuff I was reading than the stuff I watched on tv.  Since most tv characters were never something I was invested in, most cartoons of my time didn't have exceptionally fleshed out characters and so there was no attachment there for me.

Likewise I think my interest in diapers also had more to do with stuff I read, since in books a lot of anything pertaining to diapers went a bit farther than just a character in a diaper.

Haha maybe I should make that my next topic, just influences in general.

I know my diaper obsession started back in kindergarten when one day I realized I wanted to be back in diapers again. Though Rugrats was my favorite show when I was a kid I never really saw it for just the diapers. Kinda the same way as you, me and my friends share diaper scenes with each other if we find them in in general.

I think the shows that kinda made me go more furry were Brandy and Mr. Whiskers and Skunk Fu. Didn't know it at the time but I liked seeing the animals talk. Though as I've gotten older I just can't get into cartoons anymore. I've tried but I'm just not interested.

Well, I never really watched Rugrats JUST for the diapers, but they, and the general baby point of view, certainly kept me interested. It was a pretty interesting cartoon, especially in the first few seasons while it was still more fresh. I definitely still watch cartoons, though I'm a heck of a lot pickier than I was as a kid. A lot of ones I used to love just don't hold up as an adult or even simply in the modern age in some cases.

One of the few that still hold up for me is King of the Hill. I liked it as a kid and as an adult its more relatable and realistic than most cartoons

Oh yes, that one is amazing! I can rewatch the old Simpsons ones forever too, though the new ones interest me a lot less.

Ever since the movie came out I can't watch anything by the Simpsons. Even that diaper  was joke of a disappointment for me that the show had to resort to that kind of joke. Disenchantment isn't too bad either, kept me engaged with the episodes. Need to try to watch more BNA before Netflix runs out

I actually never watched the movie, but it looked pretty bad to me and that was around the time I stopped really watching the show as well. The earlier seasons still hold up for me though, not having cable as a kid meant I've seen them probably a dozen times per episode but I'll still sit here and watch them. It really hits hard in the nostalgia haha. I really didn't expect to like Disenchantment, so I went into it with low expectations but I think it's actually pretty good. BNA is CRAZY but I love it. Between BNA, Aggretsuko, and Beastars we've had a lot of good furry anime lately.

The movie's alright. Definitely not their A material but not as awful as modern era Simpsons. I was the other way as a kid and didn't have internet until later on. I still remember the first day we got internet I spent hours playing this Flash game about collecting colored records and putting them into the right machine or something. Kinda debating on getting Disney+ to fininsh The Clone Wars and especially now that I saw The Bad Batch is getting its own show. Looks like anime is the new leader in converting people to furries.

I watched Cartoons non-stop as a kid. Cartoon Network was my big one, with Disney and Nickelodeon behind it (Toon Disney more so than Normal Disney). SWAT Kats, Ed Edd n Eddy, Johnny Bravo, and others were my faves. In terms of Anime, it mostly came from Toonami, like you, my faves were Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, and my all-time favorite was Ronin Warriors (I even got action figures of them).

For the diaper thing, I believe I got my attraction to it from watching Fantastic Max, Cartoon Network's busy baby cartoon equivalent of Rugrats. I also got my interest in clothing loss and wardrobe malfunctions from it as well, notably the part where the Titular character's diaper is stolen while he gives a speech. This lead to me liking other diapered cartoons, such as Tom and Jerry (the episodes with Tuffy), Pound Puppies (took me a long time to rediscover this one), Muppet Babies, and the first half of season 1 of Baby Looney Tunes.

Why I became a furry? I think it's just because I think animal characters are cuter than human ones, also diapering animal characters seems less offensive than diapering human ones as well.

Hm, I never saw Fantastic Max, though the name rings a bell. I might have to look into that one. I definitely started off as a furry just because "animal characters are cute" and honestly, that kind of remains as my reason for being here.

It's from the same guy who made SuperTed, and feels very similar. It's about a one year old kid who goes on space adventures with his toy sidekicks, and his bratty three year old sister who tries to tattle on him.

I never even heard of SuperTed, man I must have missed out on a few from not having cable for so long.

Hey, back when there was a Babyfur.ME, I had a fan group called As Seen on TV, which actively hunted down pictures of cartoon characters in diapers. In addition to all the expected entries, there were a few you probably didn't see too often, like the Pink Panther's toddler son Punkin, the baby Chippettes, and Jungle Boy's entreaty to have his diaper changed in an episode of Johnny Bravo. Even Angelica was in there... in the early episodes of Rugrats, she wore diapers too, although they were over her tights, which just seems like a recipe for disaster.

But yeah, Tuffy/Nibbles from Tom and Jerry was an early favorite of mine, way back in the early 1980s when they were showing episodes all the time in syndication. Hugs and Tugs were also great, but mostly Tugs, who was certainly an influence on my own character Byron. Diaper changes in cartoons were a rare treat; The Turnabout was one of my guilty pleasure favorite episodes of The Care Bears Family, which was already a guilty pleasure when you're a boy on the edge of teenhood.

Oh nice, yeah I've stumbled across lists here and there, wouldn't be surprised if I had actually seen that one at some point. I actually caught the Johnny Bravo one on TV, that was a really surprising one for me. Also in Rugrats, Angelica had a whole episode where she dresses like a baby to avoid getting responsibilities on her birthday too, that one always stuck with me haha. I remember seeing that Care Bears clip too, though I never watched the show outside of that, but interesting to know it had an influence on Byron. I guess it makes some sense!

I know this sounds kinda dumb, but I actually drew my first diaper comic after my pet bird died. I'm not an artist, by any stretch of the imagination, but it bothered me finding out a living thing can die and oddly enough I remember asking my grandma if I could get the bird back (I was like 5 or 6 at the time).

I felt a level of comfort drawing it, and it was just a couple pieces of paper folded. It's just strange how pets can come and go I guess, I actually loved that thing.

But as far as cartoons go, the first cartoons I actually liked were Captain Bucky O'Hare and Silverhawks. I just liked space stuff, but I had an old VHS tape of those shows in my bedroom and it was watched often, and I also had that last episode of David the Gnome where they become trees at the end.

It's kinda strange but I was the type of person to hit record and come back home watching the shows with commercials.

Those ones were just a bit before my time, and I haven't seen them. I remember Bucky O'hare though, so there must have been some point I saw reruns or something when I was really little. I definitely had a pile of VHS tapes with blocks of cartoons on them though, and a few that my dad recorded and cut out the commercials (which was great!). It's always tough to lose a pet, for me I was around 12 when I lost the dog I had grown up with, and it definitely broke me for a while.

That's tough with the dog, what was his name?

Kaydee, she was more like a sister to me than a dog and it was just super painful and sudden to lose her. Around the time she passed I adopted a stray cat I found as a tiny kitten as well, and he only recently passed away, though he lived a long life for a cat (over 20 years!). I knew his time was short but with everything else going on this year it really magnified the loss.

Oh she was a girl, that's kinda cool she was like a sister to you. I also had a cat (for about 8 months) that I named Batman, I think he was a boy but he was fixed because I got him back at the animal shelter that was in Irvine, California.

He ran away but he was cool, he was a black cat. I'm currently in Minnesota.

Heh, a lot of the stuff I grew up with has been mentioned here by you or someone else already, though the biggest ones for me and hooligan were definitely early Disney Channel and Cartoon Network. Ducktales, My Little Pony, Care Bears (pretty sure Hugs and Tugs left an impression), Captain Planet, and Johnny Quest, to name but a few. And, of course, when Pokemon took off, we were into it hook, line and sinker; Digimon, too. During our teens we watched a lot of the other stuff already mentioned; that's when we got especially into anime (I still have fond memories of watching Ruroni Kenshin at my school's anime club). Some of the adult cartoons I've gotten into semi-recently are Rick and Morty, Ball Masterz 9009, Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel, and Xavier Renegade Angel (though I don't actually reccommend that last one unless you like ugly animation with an obtuse sense of humor; seriosly, that show is fucking wierd). More wholesome shows that I've been into recently are My LIttle Pony: Friendship is Magic, Steven Universe, and the new Ducktales. Man, just thinking about all these 'toons is really bringing back memories!

Xavier is a hell of a ride, I've actually seen it before, and I know exactly what you mean. Probably better if you're not entirely sober, and honestly it seems to be made to be viewed that way. I completely forgot about Ruroni Kenshin until you just mentioned it, but I was super into that one as well back when it was on... Toonami I think? I was pleasantly surprised by the new Ducktales, I went into it not expecting much but was glad I gave it a shot. I was never a huge fan of the old one, I'd watch it now and then, but I loved the old NES game so it was great to see a certain song pop up in the new series. I absolutely adore Steven Universe but I can't find the very end of the series anywhere, so I'm still behind on it.

Mega Babies in Canada. It has diapers and all the gross out humour. Very gross show. Terrible animation. Awful writing...but it probably exposed a lot of people myself to being potentially an ABDL.

I liked Star Fox and that's probably what exposed me to furries.
HydroFTT

Yeeeeah, I did see that one unfortunately lol. Definitely some of the ugliest animation I've ever seen. If the style weren't so bad, and the writing was a little better, it probably would have interested me more. I played the original Star Fox game, but strangely it never really triggered any sense of them being "furry" to me. If I'd played any of the ones with Krystal that might've been a different story...

Considering I grew up with LemonMeringue, I don't have much to add in the way of shows I watched that he hasn't already said. However, I do remember the old Pound Puppies, and how Whopper was this cute diapered puppy; everyone called him a baby, but he seemed to act like an older kid. That's actually one of my favorite tropes, is when we get characters like that. Wish it happened more often. X)

Hm, I might have to check that out, I never really saw that one to be honest.
