I'm pretty sure no-one can claim to be a Jerome main but they can't deny the power of his Magic Cancel special ability.
-
For a bit of background for those that don't know, Jerome was a character that turned up near the end of Series 2 for all of 1 episode.
However there's no denying he made an impression as he seemed to be able to stop dead literally any attack that was sent his way, even Solar Fist's dreaded Light-hand Special Punch, which he not only was able to neutralize but also stopped the rebound effect and thus almost killed Solar Fist in the process via exertion.
The fact that Jerome never retaliated in any of his fights drew the attention of Drako who challenged him to a battle of wordplay and through a turn of phrase Drako used Jerome's skill to create a paradox thus canceling out Jerome's Magic Cancel and defeating him.
Drako realized that Jerome's skill was what he needed to protect a weakness in Drako's Kami wo Korosu Ken (The Godkilling Sword) and after explaining the situation to Jerome, Jerome gave up his life to help Drako thus creating the only Godkilling Sword that affects beyond The Void's Violet Causeway (death for the dead) i.e. creating a permadeath weapon.
-
Jerome therefore became a very valuable support character even to the point of being a tactical tag team character rather than the average 1-hit swap-in-swap-out Class-E Special Action character.
You see Class-E characters have normally just 1 move or rarely slightly more than that in total, so a Class-E Special Action is when the character you're using calls a Class-E character in as a Special Action to perform just 1 move, the move that the Class-E character performs.
Jerome may be a Class-E character but the usefulness of a Special Action that can neutralize half of all the attacks in the game means they can be a very valuable shield or time waster in a tag team fight.
-
Sammu by comparison is a much more balanced character with a full fighting style. He's a solid Class-C character having chains, specials and a couple of stances, just putting him on the boundary of Class-B. However his indestructibleness will give even Class-A's a run for their money as he wares them down over time, even giving Drako, our favorite Class-S quite the challenge.
Like Neq Barnworth, Sammu has a variety of special skills and abilities including combination skills such as his pressure point and traction feed combo which is a powerful disabler. This has a variety of paralysis attacks and his 4-extension Cancel action is the most recently revealed in his repertoire to date though knowing Sammu it's not likely to be the last.
-
When Sammu performs the 4-extension Cancel he reaches out with 1 arm with other arm pointing in the same direction but with elbow pointed out and away, at the same time tucking his head down and away so as to point his horns in the same direction as his hands.
This creates 4 potential striking points so as to cancel attacks to the upper body but also executes a dab in the process. The "absolute mad lad" tactic of using a dab as a practical fighting skill is so bonkers and so totally typical of Sammu's character.
It's also an extremely good and useful move, especially in Sammu's defense-first-based fighting style. It's a very powerful physical cancel, similar to Jerome's Magic Cancel but catering for the opposite half of attacks that Jerome's skill covers.
It doesn't have full coverage either from the fact that it covers only part of Sammu's body or that it doesn't work against every possible physical attack but it is feed-based which means that it can lead into other skills that can do more than simply cancel an attack.
-
This not only makes Sammu valuable as a tag team character similar to how Jerome works as a powerful shield or time-waster but because Sammu can also fight back and has almost a Class-B level of skill it's the kind of unnecessary bonus that pits them against some of the revamped and newly introduced characters of Series 3 without going full ham on the power level.
In conclusion Sammu is a subtly awesome character that truly skilled players will decimate others with. A true diamond in the rough that will catch many a player off guard.
