Seriously, America? (Politics warning!)

Hey America, ever notice that every time there's a mass shooting, the person responsible is a complete wingnut, and/or insanely religious?

That's what happens when you don't invest in mental health and education!

More gun regulations aren't going to solve the problem.

More regulations on media aren't going to solve the problem.

ACTUALLY FIXING WHAT'S FUNDAMENTALLY BACKWARDS ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY will fix the problem.

Invest in healthcare, education, end the war on drugs, make an effort to reduce the poverty in your country, like the rest of the civilized world has!

I disagree: getting rid of the guns would help. It's quite hard to kill 49 people in minutes with a knife - if nothing else, they can run away - and even pistols have their limits, but semi-automatic rifles with high-capacity magazines put wanton slaughter within the reach of any 20-something incel.

Getting rid of firearms in the US is a lost cause; They're already there, and in countries with no access to semiautomatic rifles or even magazines over 3 rounds, mass murderers either just ignored firearms laws and used illegal weapons or slaughtered people with trucks.

The fact that people can walk into a store and buy the tools for a mass killing spree is ridiculous. And it's not just theoretical - many actual mass-murderers have done this because it is easy and legal. It's one of the key reasons that you see such a high proportions of such attacks in the USA, and why the body counts are so high. They'll continue to use that method it until it is stopped.

There are certainly other options for mass murder using multi-purpose tools such as trucks (with their own potential prevention methods, such as protective bollards and GPS ignition cutouts) but these guns have no use other than killing lots of people in a short amount of time. There's no good reason to allow their sale to civilians. Every day that continues increases the number of weapons in circulation, making "there are so many guns already" a self-perpetuating argument.

It's not all or nothing - the harder it is to get a gun, the less likely such attacks are. Yes, it'd take years to remove semi-automatic guns from circulation; the process may never be complete. But that is not an excuse not to start - rather, it is a reason to start as soon as possible.

Uh, no, you can't just go out and buy a gun in most of the US, there's a waiting period, criminal record checks, you need a liscence, and other various methods that are supposed to prevent this.

Semiautomatic rifles have no purpose other than killing? Really? Have you never heard of a gun range? Or 3-gun competitions? Or shooting varmints? Only 1 out of 1.2 million rounds fired in the US are ever fired in anger.

The fact that you think you can just buy a semiautomatic rifle off the shelf in most of the US, and ignore the overwhelmingly recreational and civilian usage of semiautomatic firearms, shows your lack of knowledge of the subject. 600,000 people die in the US to heart disease; Only 10,000 to any firearms violence with any category of firearm. Hundreds of thousands more are killed by cars.
