I've tried asking really nicely, I've tried offering up services so it's not something for nothing.. I've tried begging... The machines to run the site, and the collocation of said machines, run right around $400 a month.. Add on top of that the tons of other ancillary bills, and the fact that since January when we had out issues this has all just been gathering on a credit card, which is basically now maxed at nearly $17,000 and has a minimum payment as high as the regular monthly server bill.... I can't do it anymore.. I mean , there is absolutely ZERO support... None... none what so ever... I don't know what else to say anymore... It'd take like, $20,000 just to get us out of the hole we've dug... Feel free to contact me at cheetah@jabarchives.com if you're some well to do individual that wants to save all of this.. lol I honestly didn't think it'd end this was after 20+ years... I'll do my best to keep it up.. but that's what I've been doing since January.. and well.. I don't know how much longer I can.    Please do share this as I know very few people read journals.

Big love to all of you.

Jim isn't the owner of InkBunny, he's the owner of The J.A.B Archives and of the webcomic Cats n' Cameras.

It's posted here, though not the most recent pages and you can see it at catsncameras.com  it's been going since 2008, had about 10 different artists, just a very small portion of what I've done since 1995 :P

Cheetah, if I still had a job, I would happily throw money at your projects. I did for years, as Porter, chipping in regularly on the “tip her to strip her” offers and once or twice paying for cameo roles in the comic. But I got forced into an early retirement, and now I’m living off my savings and investments. So I fear the only thing I can give you is my heartfelt thanks, for all the comics, stories and characters you gave to us. It sucks that you racked up so much debt trying to keep it all alive, and that fan-driven funding fell so short of your costs. I really hope you can find a white knight to pay those bills, even if you can’t keep it all going for us. Good luck, my friend. And thank you.

i loved reading the comic but if you're that deep in the red and getting nothing to even try to balance it, i'd say either abandon ship or close the doors until you can get things back in a semi-reasonable working order. short of "get a Patreon" option or sell black market organs, you might have to consider defeat as an option and try to avoid things getting worse. i'd love to say "i'd chip in" but i'm among the many who can't for our own various reasons for lacking funds to spare. i really hope you get out of your debt and hate to see it go like this.

You must be misunderstanding the situation here.
It isn't just one comic at risk here. The entirety of palcomix all together is about to shut down for good.
A dark day for all of hentai kind.

So, first rules of holes - you need to stop digging:
" We're in a half cabinet in a secure data center, we're on 4 separate servers to make sure we never lose content. We're on a 10MB unmetered backbone with octuple redundancy
This is going to be costing you a bunch and won't give you reasonable bandwidth. Even if it's 100Mbit/sec it's probably a bad deal because you probably won't be using it at that consistently.

You'd probably do far better consolidating onto a leased server (maybe two, if you really need it - remember leases include replacements!) from a large hosting provider like LeaseWeb, either in the USA or - more cost-effectively - in Europe or Canada, if the jurisdictions are to your liking. If they don't meet your storage needs, use the configuration option. Or find someone else, like OVH's SoYouStart or Kimsufi brands.

Inkbunny runs on ~$300/month, including ancillaries, and we push over 25TB/month not including cache-to-cache transfers, so I find it hard to believe that you can't manage on less.

Keep the old servers at home if you want a backup, or sell them if they're still worth something; unfortunately Meltdown and Spectre will have decreased market value even if they're new.

Actually have a very secure set up with GoRack here in Jacksonville, in a federal reserve bank, and the fact it's a tier 1 data center means I answer to noone for content so long as it's not illegal .  I've done the leased machine routes before.. Some of the stuff we also host on the servers there help keep us at least a little afloat.. Bandwidth wise, we're pushing about 45tb/month on slow months.. Only reason I moved to the cabinets was because it was the same cost as the colo plus/minus $25.. (they really wanted to fill the cabinets)   So going back to an open colo wouldn't really benefit us.. We're really just running a ridiculously slow period.. It's just compounded over time and the fact that I very VERY much need to change our payment provider from the one I had to switch to out of emergency..   I could really use some possible talk time with you to see if there's any chance some of the coders that worked on inkbunny could possible tweak the gallery code we had written since that developer left.. And left it unfinished... I've been at this for soo soooo long, I really don't want to lose it.

Thanks for your advice my friend!

Not to belabor the obvious, but... have you checked your server logs to see if someone is hotlinking a lot of images from your servers onto their sites, or repeatedly mass-downloading the entire site, or anything like that?  I find it almost inconceivable that even Palcomix, Jab Archives, and Cats 'n' Cameras combined -- which, between them, carry a handful of weekly-updated webcomics and the galleries of maybe a couple dozen active artists at most (last I looked, anyway) -- can possbly be consuming almost twice the monthly bandwidth of a site like Inkbunny, which has thousands of active users posting and viewing hundreds of new postings every day...

Yes, and again.. As much as everyone thinks they know what's going on behind the scenes.. yes that amount of traffic flows out of the sites which span significantly MORE than the furry fandom.  Even Pal has more traffic from the Anime side of things . Which is why the same message is out there on their site, asking the same of that side of our audience. TJA is also outside of the Furry only audience. Hell the only reason FA uses so much bandwidth is poorly written code... but yes. I have a very strong grip on where our bandwidth and server capacity go.

For those confused about the situation, it isn't just cats n cameras at stake here.
Although that is a shame in of itself.

The entirety of palcomix and everything attributed to it is about to shut down for good, unless sales get better very soon.

A dark day for all of hentai kind.

Everyone please do what you can.
Palcomix is just too awesome to let collapse.

i would feel sadder for lost of such good comics if i had not warned them of this years ago. splitting resources so many diff ways, using adds, hentaikey, mobius unleashed and peitro club all to get funds and charging more or less same? people's funds don't stretch as far as used to.

add to that we get 1 premium comic page and 4 sometimes 5 pics a week on these memberships? some often really half assed? god no wonder it was failing. i jumped ship to JAB a while back and most people i know do also. PAL just got too greedy to follow seriously.
cheetahjab
5 years, 5 months ago
Jumped ship to jab?  Little confusing.. Point blank Mobiusunleashed pays the majority of the bills that occur at tja.. so when it's membership declines as it has, the site has a hard time paying for everything.  ALL... ALLLL of the other stuff Pays the 14 or so artists that BRING the PalComix content to all of you.. And 75% of Mobius's income also PAYS those artists.. Speaking of content.. Each and EVERY Tuesday (since I'm the one updating the site) It's 5 Comic pages or more. and 12 Pictures... So round about 50 to 60 pictures a month and 20-24 comic pages a month on mobius... You're theoretically paying 31.5 cents per picture. And that's if you're doing the non discounted memberships.. which if then drops to 25 cents. On the 6 month membership you pay 20 cents per picture...
cheetahjab
5 years, 5 months ago
hell I did all that math wrong cause it's 15 pictures each week for the 4 areas that update pictures and the 5 areas that update comics each week adds at least 5 pages per week... but you get my drift..
lordzolo
5 years, 5 months ago
love to know where you got 70 pics from? hentai key last 7 months straight 4 pics and 1 comic strip. the 4 pics are phones in quality from 3 years backs.

mobius has SLIGHTLY more pics across the 4 sites but only 2 or 3 update semi often. it averages 9 pics A MONTH.

now if we factor peitro AND slavetoon AND yuri heaven on top of mobius and hentai key MAYBE we get near 60...however the combined triple cost makes that nearly $100. be a grade A assclown to pay that for porn.

long story the pal guys are just bad at marketing their product. they been in and out of financial issues last 5 years and had issues when i first found them nearly a decade ago. they should have never tried to make it solo and signed on with a bigger company as free lance artists.
they did a few good stories and will miss them but too much; especially of late, shows how rushed they are and how phoned in the art has become. hell so many comics mess up the text or repeat a previous pages text in every bubble. no quality control or love for art anymore it's all capitalism bottom line these days.

TBH these days i am prob just spoiled for choice so much more. i mean i follow shadman and akubar who are both known as being slowest and most inconsistent uploaders ever; yet their quality is always top noche so when i see regular artwork that lacks same consistency it eerks me.

I don’t control henraikey.  I personally update the möbius site.  Every single Tuesday period.  Updates semi regularly?? It’s updated every week since it opened. I’m done arguing with you man you have no Idea what your talking about .

So I just want to say a couple of things here. I have been a long time viewer so much so that clicking on the 18+ button i was lying. I really enjoy the content but after reading your forum post I wanted to make an account on here to share some personal thoughts.

Really the internet has changed a lot in the past decade and from seeing you post on the site that it is about to be shut down because you are barley scraping by really says a lot just in that however I did not know it was so bad that you have piled so much debt onto a credit card just to keep the site up. Really it feels like the entire site needs to undergo a transformation to stay afloat. Personally I think you should be running some type of ad system. You don't have any ads which I know in the past hat you experimented with them but they seemed to be extremely intrusive ads, the website should really be designed around them somewhat to accommodate them without being hyper intrusive.

All the free comics are great, do not get me wrong I love free stuff, but if you are struggling to get by then really that should not be something that you continue. I do not know if the artists are being paid or they just want to do them in there spare time, but if anything you should really taper back the amount of "Free" stuff on the site. There are already hundreds of free comics.maybe slow it down to 2 active at a time?

I'd also like to point out something that has always confused me as well. Why is so much of the content spread out between 3 different methods. Mobius unleased(Which is divided into 5 different content variants, which yes I understand you get it all the sites for the price), pal VIP(Which I am sure you had problems with keeping this in the past because of sub counts, I am not sure if that has changed), and now Pietro's club. I have subscribed to all of these at one time or another but I only kept it active for a little while because(At the time I was subscribed anyway) it felt like updates came really slow and it just made sense to come back in a few months when there was more content and really that's the problem. I never did. It would be much better I feel if stuff was just under a single umbrella with more regular updates.

Genuinely I hope you figure out a plan to save the site, but I would rather see it close than see you keep trying to fix something that is causing you financial stress in the sum and upwards of $17,000.

These are just my thoughts maybe they are misguided because I don't know the back end stuff, but this is just my experience with the website over the years. Good luck!

it's cause BBMBF or however it is spelt is a great artist but shit with money. i had a discussion with him about it in pasty when was just mobius and hentai key and told him outright to cut ties with key before this exact issue occured.

people are not keen to fund multi sites
