Secret Santa 2017 {CLOSED}

Lyrra is too busy to host the Secret Santa this year, so I will be subbing in! Please thank them for their hard work hosting the last three years and for letting me reuse their journal and form! <3

It's that time of year again!

" It is thing where artists and writers all put their names into a hat. And then they get paired. The only thing you know is the person you are drawing/writing for. You don't know who is making the gift for you. Why it is known as a secret santa.



FAQ

Q. Can sprite sheet artists join?
A. Yes! They can indeed! Also, the Sprite sheet option is only available if an artist of this kind joins.

Q. Can writers participate?
A. Yes, they can.
 
Q. Oh, well, I can "draw" or ''write'' then, or do stuff!
A. Please, give your artistic/writing ability honest consideration before entering. I'm not here to hurt anyone's feelings, but I always don't want to hurt the feelings of the guy/girl who works hard on a gift then opens a present of stick figures yiffing or a story ''Once a upon a time there was a bed, it was shared by *insert two names.* and they played on it all night :P the end '' on December 20th. (aka quality limit)
I have noticed that some ignore THIS THING. So I'm going to ask this.
" Ask yourself, would anyone or you, yourself want this?



Q. Geeze, you're such a snob, why don't you just pair up people based on skill levels?
A. There's a lot of arguments for and against this. For me, it boiled down to one thing: The spirit of the season.  I want people to be excited about what they might receive, and hooking up so-called "elite" artists only with other "elite" artists spoils everyone's fun. Be honest. You know if you're any good at doing arts/stories or not. You don't have to be Wolfy_Nail or Fisk, but people should be able to look at your art and know if it's a mouse or a moose, please. Is there a chance your gift will be "lower quality" than what you gave? Sure, maybe. Ever get a fire extinguisher from the grandma you bought earrings for? Try to keep in the spirit of the season, guys. Who knows, maybe that artist you have such a low opinion of actually has a really awesome new take on your character.

Q. I don't want to put all this time into a colored piece and receive a messy sketch in return!
A. You can choose to give a clean sketch/lines or a colored piece, and you'll be paired with someone putting in the same level of effort!

Q. Are cub characters allowed?
A. Yes!

Q. Ewww, you mean I have to draw cubs?
A. No! You can opt out of drawing cubs if they make you uncomfortable. Cubs will only be paired with artists who have volunteered to draw or write about them.

Q. What's with the deadlines?
A. I wanted to give people plenty of time to put their name in the hat, but I also need time to randomize the results. I picked Dec. 20th for artists and Dec. 31st for writers as gift giving day because I know most people will be busy for the week of Christmas and I thought we should beat the rush!

Q. What happens if someone doesn't follow through with their gift?
A. Well, I don't exactly have the power to enforce rules around here. It's Christmas people, don't be a flake! But at the same time, it's Christmas, people, and sometimes things happen! Try to be understanding if someone has issues. I'm hopeful everyone will come through, and if not, I'll be happy to talk to people privately so that there's understanding and satisfaction. Also! If you cannot deliver and do not inform me about it, you may not join again unless you speak with me.

3. Everybody goes here! (as long as the form is available, you may sign up)
4. Wait for the goodies ^^


Rules!

1. Don't demand to be drawn by a certain artist, they might not have entered, been approved or can't do what you have asked.
2. FILL OUT THE FORM!
Everyone who fills out the form will be submitting a character or two to be drawn or written by someone else that also entered.
3. If you cannot by some reason upload by December 20th(artists only!), let me know so I can tell your person that their gift will be delayed. It must be done before December 31st, or else you will not be able to enter next year if I host.

Writers have until December 31st to upload, not the 20th. Since I know it takes a longer time to write a story than to draw a picture in general. But if you're done by the 20th, do feel free to upload it! :)

Entries close 11:59 PM gmt+1(1 hour ahead of UK), November 22th, 2017 (that's two weeks to enter, people!). Once all the submissions are in, I will randomly assign each participant someone else's character, based on the preference they picked. Everyone that has been approved will receive their Secret Santa assignments by November 25rd in a pm here on Inkbunny.

Then, on December 20th, everyone will exchange gift art! You can choose to post the gift art here on Inkbunny and let them know, or PM the art to them privately so they can post it themselves. I strongly encourage everyone to use the tag "secretsanta2017" so all of Inkbunny can see the unwrapped presents!

Note! The Secret Santa staff will also join, or at least them that can draw, write or make sprite sheets :)

In 2013, Jacinth  was hosting it with 42 participants! #secretsanta2013
In 2014, ib!Lyrra took over and got a total of a whopping 113 participants! #secretsanta2014
In 2015, we got 103 participants :D #secretsanta2015
Last year, in 2016, 99 participants! #secretsanta2016
This year, 2017, I will be taking over and hope for even more! #secretsanta2017

Well i can create new ocs for them useing a small description like what species and what kind of clothing, but i limited to a few select species that i am best with, also i cant find m form

I think I will join this year. I skipped last year cause I was burned in 2015 and provided art, but never received anything. Tis the season to give I suppose, but you can understand why I skipped a year.

Sorry to say I'll pass. There's a real mess going on with what should be a very familiar and simple concept.

• Forcing each Santa to draw a specific character: That's silly and counterproductive. If an artist draws something they're not interested in, which is likely when you force a specific character or topic on them, the result is shit. You need to choose the nature of your gift to the recipient or the value of the gift beyond narcissistic vanity is lost. If you want to draw gift art for somebody but don't even have the decency to go to their page and learn about their content and what they like and choose which bit of it is your favorite or which you think you can make look the best, don't bother with gift art.

• Mixing in writing but segregating "cubs": So as I understand it you're basically running two separate Secret Santas: one for "cub artists" and one for everyone else. That's confusing and makes no sense... I have underage characters (some of them SFW!) and would accept gift art of them, but won't take part in rape culture i.e. won't draw almost anybody else's "cubs", so where would I go? I also have little interest in anything written by the furry fandom, and would not be happy entering Secret Santa as a visual artist and getting writing from mine.

• Pettier complaints: Why did you call out two artists by name, one of them an asshole who mocks rape victims, as idols and examples of fine furry art? That's in very poor taste.

Thank you for your honesty! I apologize if the set up is not the best and doesn't hold to the value of gifts as well as a surprise would be. The way the secret santa is set up is to make sure everyone is able to receive something they would like, and so far all secret santas I have seen are set up in a similar way to ensure everyone is happy!

Some people will be specific with what they want while others will give complete artistic freedom, and santas would have to search their page in the way you described. This is why we have people specify what they will and will not do, so that nobody is forced to make something they don't like, such as rape. Some people prefer only adults, only cubs, or will do anything! Whether it's from personal preference or set of skills. So I am not making it one or the other, just as I wouldn't make it clean or adult. I will pair everyone to make sure people are comfortable with what they give and receive.

We also have options for what you will contribute and receive so that you have the option to receive only art or only writing or both. If you don't want to receive writing, simply don't check the box for stories.

As for the two artists, it's unclear what you are talking about. If you are referring to Jacinth and Lyrra, I am only providing credit for the host of previous secret santas. If that's the case, then I'm sorry, but there is nothing I can do about that.

The secret santa is to help bring people of the community together, find new members to watch, and bring fun and joy to the holiday season! If you still find the set up of the Secret Santa unsatisfactory and choose not to participate, then that is your choice. 1. secret santas aren't really all about doing what YOU want, it's about gifting something to someone else. many secret santas DO have areas where you list the character you want to be drawn/written about. i think... that's the whole point?? I would NOT want someone going to my page and randomly choosing a character, especially if it's one i don't feel comfortable having art drawn of them by other people. and that's most of my characters

2. i don't draw cub so it's a good thing they added the option not to receive it. there are again, plenty of secret santas that offer the option to opt out of NSFW content or for you to specify if you don't feel comfortable with a particular subject. cubs included. If i was randomly paired with someone who wants cub, and the host saw that, they'd redo the random pairing until i got someone who doesn't want cub art.

joining anyway tho, i love this kinda stuff even in this kind of community. can't wait to see what people come up with

came up with the idea.
Basically, you have a lot of options to choose from when it comes to who you are paired up with.  You don't want some complicated design? you can specify what you don't feel comfortable drawing. You can opt in/out of a certain age group and the rating level as you seem fit. To top it off, you can ask for what type of content you want, whether it's art, writing, etc. and you have a lot of checkboxes to fill out from.

You're not "forced" to choose, it's a randomized Art Trade that fits your preferences.

I made a journal, I love Secret Santa and everytime I entered its been amazing and I have loved every gift I have ever gotten ♥

Also I disagree with Fibs, if they actually read the fill out form they would see that you can choose your options and that if they wanted too they can point out things they like drawing/things they don't like drawing, and regardless of a person's personality if they are talented they are talented, its a sad fact of life.

This would be fun to try but I feel like lately I lack any motivation to draw at all. I’ve been burned by the furry community so I don’t think I necisarily want to give back to people who have been so mean. I’d rather do gift art for actual friends of mine. But even doing gift art is risky because I’ve given it so some people and they just treated me like shit for trying to do something nice.

i joined and put up a journal!

i wanted to make an edit to my submission but i couldn't right after cuz i crashed... i accidentally selected both the inks option and flat color for the santa gift i'm drawing... but i would def be putting color on my pic, no matter what, so it won't just be lineart. might even have shading too depending on how i'm feeling. :)

Theoretically yes ^^ though I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in it unless you're able to customize models to fit their character.
