Making a few upgrades

As the title suggests, I'm thinking of making a few upgrades soon and wouldn't mind hearing a few opinions or suggestions ^^ The biggest one I'm most concerned about here is that I hafta get a new PC or laptop. Sooner than later, because my current one is at least 4 yrs old and probably on it's last leg (still using windows vista too >//< lol). I've actually never had a laptop but my dad's been trying to convince me for a while now, and I think I might give it a shot. But here's some deciding factors:

1) Memory. Gotta have a device that has plenty of it. Tired of having a system that can barely handle 2 programs at once because there's not enough physical memory >:(

2) I still occasionally like to burn CD-Rs and stuff, so a system with a CD-RW drive would be nice.

3) I've never been much for PC gaming, but I might try to get into it more if I have a PC/laptop that can handle it well enough. I'm not looking for the cheapest of the cheap, but I'm not going for the most high end gaming PC either. Maybe something that's sorta middle ground? :S

Next up, it's time for me to decide on a current gen console (last one I got was an xbox 360 >.> *blushes lots*). Was planning to go with XboxOne, but now heavily leaning towards a PS4 :3

Lastly, it'd be great to maybe upgrade to a bigger tv as well. But that can wait 'til probably early next year XP

At this point you almost might as well get a DVD-R or -RW since they tend to come with CD-RW, unless it's particularly expensive where you are. Heck, Blu-ray players aren't all that expensive and can usually do it. Obviously, check before you buy, since some are just players.

Consider the capabilities of any new gaming system when you are considering the new TV, and vice versa. 4K output is very demanding, and your system may as well run well on it. It might also feed into your main system purchases - the Xbox One can play UDH Blu-ray, but not PS4, because Sony doesn't want to cannibalize its market of standalone UHD Blu-ray players.

Yeah. From what I understand, a lot of decent laptops will have already come with a CD-RW? So I hope that's the case so that I don't have to buy one separate. Not sure if this is more likely with laptops or PCs or if it doesn't really matter either way? (my current pc tower has one, can't remember if it came with it or not tho >.>) I mainly use it for youtube vids that I save and want to play them that way.

As for 4K TVs, I've heard about that lately too, but am probably not quite ready for that type of upgrade. I'm pretty simple and not too heavily into highest def tech that's out there. Just looking for a slightly larger screen size atm and as long as it looks decent. :3 And if I pickup a PS4 slim, then at least I'll have my first basic Blu-ray player ever, so that's cool. x3 hehe And thanks for the reply ^^

You should always examine the specifications - there are no guarantees (heck, if anything, laptops are more likely nowadays to come without optical drives art all). But if it doesn't come with one, you can always get a USB device if you need it.

You probably don't need 4K. Heck, most places aren't broadcasting quality HD TV yet. But at least try to get some kind of  HDR standard support (i.e.  Rec. 2020); it makes a difference. You may end up with some kind of 4K anyway because it's been working its way down the market.

If you do get a new set, anything mid-2016 or after is likely to be good at least when it comes to the relevant standards, as long as its firmware is updated. Before that people were just trying to get "4K" and the quality of implementation was lacking. (Also note that many of LG's lower-end models aren't really 4K, more 3K, because they mix in extra white pixels horizontally. You may like the result, and the resulting price, but know what you're getting.)

Oh yeah, definitely. I rarely ever buy anything outright without doin a little research or asking questions first. I know electronic stores probably hate people like me, 'cause I'll always window shop at least a week or two before making any kind of decision. lol x3
