The edge around the total eclipse looks a lot brighter that what I saw more than 40 years ago...Could have had some to do with how near or far the moon was away from the Earth at the different times. The one I saw looked like what I have depicted in a drawing.

I was just thinking, your school district must have been run by control freaks to have gone out of their way to start school an hour early that day in 1979 just to have you all miss the eclipse...Obviously the eclipse of 1979 must have not taken place during the summer being that school was in session. I guess I lucked out in that by 1973 I was no longer attending school. And now looking back on it, I also remember the eclipse I saw had to have been on a week end (I don't remember whether it was a Saturday or a Sunday). That I remember because the farm where I worked growing flowers for pyrethrum insecticide had off on weekends, and it was one of my days off from work.
