You could probably still get it back by writing directly to their accounts@ address. They'd ask you enough questions to be sure it was actually you, and you'd likely at least need to know what your old email address was.

Probably, but they supposedly have extra staff manning the address for now. Hopefully, the wait won't be too long for people. If anyone wants back on, it can't hurt to try. For people who originally used a temp email, or who actually forgot what they used, they'll probably verify them by having them send a private note from another site, such as this one.

Mine had a current email but still gave an error at first anyway. If did work eventually so I'm back on there now. Not sure how many users will be coming back even if it does work and FA holds together.

Oh well, already feared that would happen to some people x-x Not good.. :/ The old password database is not deleted (as according to them, there#s actually a check to prevent you from resetting password to the old one), so perhaps they will establish an email-change service with the old passwords in some days.

(1) Lost account after an apparently deliberate power cut for an hour. Attempts to reset username & password were thwarted by contradictory,complex & constantly changing instructions. I gave up and opened a new account. I COULD then access my old, but it was like somebody else's.
(2) Lost account again. Again the contradictory,complex & constantly changing commends. After a long fallow period just using the website as a visitor -and getting frustrated by people allowing access to their work only by registered users- I opened a new one again.
(3) Can't search anymore. The option is no longer offered. Were it not for wanting to read Tegerio. Now he wants to charge by Patreon. I don't know if I wish to.
