Well I've been somewhat aware of Artists Beware, a Livejournal thingy that reports unethical artists and commissioners, ranging from tracers, people who don't pay, and people who take too long making art. Obviously, this is a good service, because it makes people aware of who to avoid business with (and there are plenty of people in this fandom you shouldn't do business with). The thing that struck me was how many people were included, and in such a short amount of time. I was looking back through a couple pages, and noticed that I was only at around October 14 of this year. So yeah, this is pretty fucked up. What is wrong with y'all guys? C'mon, some ethics perhaps!
Artists: if you're getting accused of being too late with commissions, either don't take on so many commissions or stop being lazy and actually fulfill your end of the deal, which is to draw the art. If you have trouble producing art for some reason, don't do commissions. Some artists just aren't right for commissions, even if their art is very high quality. You gotta be reliable and timely. If it makes you upset that costumers are demanding you to complete work you said you would, or if they already paid, then don't open for commissions.
Commissioners: be polite, don't talk shit about artists, be patient. Artists also have lives and can't complete commissions immediately. If it's not done within a month, email or note them about it. Be polite and friendly. Check up occasionally and don't be demanding or pushy. Most importantly, pay the artists. Pay them on time, do not gyp them, that's pretty fucked up. If you don't have the money to pay them AT THE TIME but you know for a fact you will have it and when, LET THEM KNOW THAT. Please be communicative. Be open and honest and explain yourself. If you can't do that, don't commission people. If you don't have the money to commission people, Definitely do not commission people. If it is a request, don't bother the person often, they'll get it done, just remind them infrequently (like I'd say two months if it's not done by then).
In General: BE MATURE AND DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU WILL AND YOU WON'T HAVE DRAMA. IF YOU CAN'T DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU WILL, DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH OTHER PEOPLE.
