Dog Getting Leg Amputated

As you may or may not have noticed, I have been unable to upload pages the last couple of days, and for those of you who know me a little better I have been very difficult to get hold of to talk to. Though a lot of BS has been happening to stress me out or make things difficult the big one that managed to knock me over finally happen. If you want to know why that is then continue reading. I'm sorry if I am not very good at wording or typing today, I have a very large stress induced migraine. Anyway.

My dog fell down the stairs and broke his leg, at least that is what we thought happened, it turned out that he didn't fall down and break his leg, he fell down because he was trying to use the stairs and his leg was broken.

When we took him to the vet they discovered that he has cancer, and the reason his leg was broken was because a tumor in his leg had grown so large it had broken then bone.

My options were to put him down, or have his leg amputated. Then optionally, follow that up with chemo.

So I went the amputation root, he had the surgery yesterday and I have been told it went well, he is eating and such but he's still not standing up on his own at the moment, so he'll be staying at the vet for today as well.

Without chemo, I have been told that he has a 'good' six month left, with chemo it would be a 'good' year. I'm still on the fence with chemo for two reasons, I most likely will not be able to afford it as well as I don't treatments like that to make him miserable (what would be the point to prolonging his life if he's just going to be sick and miserable the whole time?)

What does this mean? Well, my dog has cancer, and not much time left. I want to be able to spend more time with him while I can. This also means that my computer well be going back down to the main floor (because he can't get up the stairs) so little to no privacy for me while I am on the internet or working on the computer.

I will do my best to keep working on my webcomics, but the pacing on them may unfortunately be unsteady and all over the place. (again, this is not the only thing making things difficult for me to work on art at the moment) I understand that things are already going pretty slow, but I will do the best I can to keep them going despite the snail like release schedule.

sorry to hear that. I know what a dog can be like for someone. I got one myself.

i do know dogs don't react the same way to chemo as humans. perhaps you should ask about how dogs react to that chemo.

Yeah, I haven't heard more on the chemo situation yet, the vet will probably talk about it when we take him back to get his stitches removed, right now it's important to get him back to walking and eating right (though he seems to be eating well already)

I'm really sorry to hear about your dog and i know what it feels like (lost one of my dogs earlier this year and the other is pretty old). If you ever need an ear or a shoulder, feel free to reach out to me.

As for the art, it's totally fine. Your personal life is far more important and i think everyone here can understand if you need to take a bit of time to be with loved ones.

It's a tough journey, but make sure to enjoy your time. If you only focus on what you know is the inevitable end of this journey, you'll find that it's hard to enjoy those you're on the journey with. Appreciate each day that your dog is there and don't focus on when they won't.

Sending you and your dog the best wishes.
Try and stay positive Kura.

Losing loved ones is never easy, the last three years have been really rough on me in that regards, I just don't often blog about them. I duno, I guess I'm just not a very open person when it comes to my personal life. This one though is hitting me harder than the other loses and will be effecting my work even more so than everything else has, so I thought I would at least give an explanation as to why this time instead of just leaving everyone guessing or worrying about me.

I will make the most of the time he has left though, and do my best to keep positive.

No chemo. Six months pain free as opposed to a year in living death?

Give the three legged little fighter an extra scritchie for me.

That is what I have been leaning towards too. I really don't want to put him through that if it'll just make him sick (it was really hard watching other family members of mine go through it, and they would always hit the 'this isn't worth it' point and stop treatments so they could actually experience the time they had left)

Whisper will be getting all kinds of extra scrittchies and treats I'm sure. He's going to be a spoiled old man.

Real sorry about your dog having cancer, having him in chemo treatment isn't the best solution for him
So, it's best to be with your dog for the few months he has left, I believe it's the you could do for your dog.
You have my prayer for your dog.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be going with chemo, but I will look into it and hear out the vet when he gives me the info on it. I suspect though I will not be doing it.

Thank you for your prayers.
