Inkbunny

Site going offline in 1 hr

Thanks to the live site notice feature, we can now actually tell you when this is about to happen. :D

You've got one hour before that big scary countdown hits zero!

We may be totally off the air for up to 2 hours (but most likely less as it's a minor update!).

The update fixes New Submissions count errors, other small bugs that got squashed and adds improvements to the site notice system.

omg IB is so Hi tech, really impressed here.

It was actually pretty fun creating the live notices system. It's even smart about multiple tabs. You can have like 100 tabs open to IB and they all get the notice update but all 100 tabs only send a single request to the server every 2.5 minutes. Better than the first live prototype which had all 100 tabs querying.. huge server load that day. xD

I dont really understand all the technical stuff about internet sites, but I have never seen such advanced features on any site before.

There's a lot of sites using similar tricks now! I get a lot of the ideas for Inkbunny from places like Twitter. I love the idea of a page that is "alive" and can tell you about new messages or do various other things without having to reload the page every time.

So I just need 250,000 tabs open instead?
starling

They all share one cookie. They'd still only send one request to the server every 2.5 minutes. :P

I'll set up 100,000 VM's with 25 seperate web browsers running each.

I'll need multiple servers.

You should fix the search filter in this update
Just saying, I miss it

I gotta finish the new Sales system first ;.; The filter bug is a complex one and will take a bit of time.
Liquidhalo231

What exactly is wrong with the filter?
It should be a simple script something like this
if (Flash)
  {
  extension.(.swf/.flv)
  }
attached to a webform
starling

It's much more complex than that in a database, sadly. We have many many filters run all at once for every search that respond to ratings choice, blocked keywords (and what rating levels for each keyword you block), blocked artists, and all the other search options you can enter. There is a bug that causes the search never to finish if you get just the right combination of options, which is why the ones that cause that bug are disabled until I can fix it.

That sounds like the filter options doesn't agree with your search script causing it to send multiple searches every time one has finished. Your problem might not be in the filter but maybe its a problem with the site's search function. Of cause i could be wrong. Its still worth checking the .php file for any errors if not add a search timeout into it.

Oh I know what's doing it! :P There's a thing called a Query Planner in a database that figures out how to run a query when you send it. For some reason our huge complex query is confusing it and I'm running into a bug in the actual database software.

A timeout would be a good idea though, as you say, in case other bugs like this happen in the future.

Glad i could help, make sure to try coding script with that timeout setting (redirect to a script that collects info on the problem and reason for the timeout and then store it on a database for you to look at later) also site indexing may help with complex searches but I'm not 100% on how to index a site that is always updating i know that DA, FA and Youtube all use indexing but i wouldn't know where to start. I wish i could be of more help.
If all else fails, try an external query manager running on a server designed just for searching and maybe indexing if you get that working.

I use code::blocks for my scripts and it hasn't failed me yet.

I can't stop staring at the countdown clock  o_o

It starts blinking red at 5 mins xD Exciting!

I saw the space for the counter prior to the shutdown, but it was only displaying (hh:mm:ss) in place of the time.  It remained that way, and not blinking, until the actual shutdown. At that point, I saw blinking red text saying that the site was down.

Did you see a big countdown timer under the (hh:mm:ss) ?

That stuff in the brackets just means the timer under it is in "hours, minutes and seconds".
FoxWolfie
8 years ago
No.  There was no countdown timer, just the (hh:mm:ss).  I'll try to get a screen capture the next time there is a timed notice, if I don't see the timer.
