Those who know me will be aware that i've been poking about with something sort of secret for work over the last couple of months. We have now, finally, had a release and i can talk about it in public! :D
Intel recently took an interest in our little painting application Krita, and asked us if we could create a new version of it with a different user interface, optimised for tablets. So, we built Krita Sketch, and Intel liked that quite a lot. In fact, they liked it enough that they came back again a couple of months ago and asked if we could create another version again, which would be able to switch between the old desktop user interface (you know, standard sort of docked panels and small buttons on toolbars and so on), and the Sketch user interface.
So, we said yes, we could do that, and on Wednesday morning, they brought it with them to San Francisco, to their big, annual developer event IDF, where they dedicated an entire minute of keynote time (there's not much time, so getting even that much is kind of a big thing ;) ) to showing off Krita Gemini :) Here's a link to the video: http://intelstudios.edgesuite.net/idf/2013/sf/keynote/... - the relevant bit is from 4:00 and just over a minute ahead :)
Yes, i'm afraid that windows XP is just too old... i know it works on 8 and 7, might even work on Vista, but xp is entirely out of the picture... 'tis a shame, i know a few furry artists are still stuck on xp for a variety of reasons.

For reasons of convienience, time, and others, installing a new win is impossible for me. However, I kind of have a dual boot with kubuntu/ubuntu (though i don't really use it, but i do have it... barely know how to use it...), which i just updated from 10 to 12 a moment ago, maybe I'll try to get it running on that thing later (maybe i should update it to that one with 13 first :/, damn so much updating)
I must say though... updating ubuntu to a new version is much more convenient than installing a new windows... (though i hate that native new windows manager :/... but then again it is fortunately easy to switch to that kde one)

Hehe, i'm not personally a big fan of ubuntu and their old and new window managers, i'm more of an openSuse sort of person, and tend to run KDE's desktop option :) Krita on Ubuntu is, however, reasonably easy to install, i'm told... one of the guys has a guide for how to do it on Linux Mint, which if memory serves is pretty much directly applicable on Ubuntu as well... And well, if you happen to know how to work IRC, then the guys are always more than happy to assist ;)

oh i don't expect installing it would be a problem, i think it should be as easy as writing a line of text in the console window... that's how installing things on ubuntu is apparently. Or i guess i could probably find it in that software manager thing
I will probably try it later but for now i'm back on xp As I said i don't normally use linux and can barely use it, it's just kind of there, for reasons. (I guess it's a kind of backup in case of windows fuckup)

Actually yes, there is a daily snapshot type thing that'll get you a nice, up to date bleeding edge Krita... *giggles* and really, you just need to use what you like best, so if xp is it for you, that is good! :) Only, of course, a shame about Krita and such ;)

It's a matter of what i'm used to (use xp since a very long time; and also have a bunch of apps installed on it), but also it seems ubuntu does have some limitations compared to windows, or maybe it's just because i can't use it properly

There's always a tradeoff between the various operating systems... and yeah, when one has gotten so used to something, it can be decidedly difficult to break habits - muscle memory is a surprisingly powerful thing in itself, let alone more elaborate workflows :)
