A CPI file is a type of video-related file that contains important metadata information associated with high-definition video recordings. It is commonly used by AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) camcorders and stores details such as frame rate, aspect ratio, resolution, and timestamps of the video. While the CPI file does not hold the actual video content, it plays a crucial role in helping media players and video editing software correctly interpret and display the accompanying MTS or M2TS video files. Essentially, the CPI file acts as a companion file that ensures smooth playback and accurate editing of HD video footage. Without it, some video editing tools might face difficulties in maintaining synchronization or displaying the correct video parameters. CPI files are usually stored in the “CLIPINF” folder within the camcorder’s memory card structure and work alongside the “STREAM” folder that holds the main video data. Although users typically do not need to open CPI files manually, they are essential for preserving the original quality and formatting of recorded videos.
