Hey everyone! I thought I'd create a journal for the first time since opening substar almost a year ago, and wanna give everyone an update about how I'm doing, what I'm doing, and what's planned ahead, so read away!
So.. How am I?
I'm doing absolutely splendid at the moment! Although, some have noticed my work schedule has been extremely erratic and getting in contact with me can be challenging. So I thought about sharing my schedule with you all to help alleviate this.
Coma's ridiculously overbooked typical life schedule
So I actually have three jobs, which includes art/subscribestar. Job 1 is my full time job, I work about 10-14 hour shifts Friday-Monday, so basically the whole weekend. This is how I pay the bills and live.. literally. Job 2 is my art, which I dedicate on my weekends outside of my main job (Tuesday-Thursday). You'll see me posting most often then. Job 3 is actually not a job but more of a volunteered duty. It's actually competitions that I compete in which means I have to travel throughout the country occasionally to participate.

Like WHAT!? Seriously guys this ottie doesn't deserve any of you but seeing this makes me shed a tear of happiness. We came so far this year and I hope we can go farther in the next one! Once we get to 5K I want to reward you guys with a one time thing you probably won't see me do again. I plan on hosting a... two piece auction!

I'm glad you asked! More details once we hit 5k but basically I'm going to host two YCH paintings. One of them will have 4 character slots, and here's the kicker.. The winner of the highest bid of any one slot will get their character featured in the second painting free!

Sooo, sadly I have to inform you guys that I got banned off of twitter for "breaking the rules". I guess they are cracking down on cub artists posting there but (whatever it wasn't that big of a loss.) ← Cope BUUUTTT what about BlueSky / bsky? I have no clue if cub is allowed there and I would happily move over if it is. Let me know if you see any cub artists actively thriving on bsky!
In the meantime I DO have an account there! Check it out! Currently it's empty out of fear of getting banned but hopefully I can get some reassuring news.
Ah yes the reason why you probably actually clicked on this Journal. Is Coma gonna open up for commissions? Is he gonna draw my (insert oc here) as a cub and do naughty things with his otter?Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. Actually.. no.. I'm not. Or maybe? (read below). The reason why I no longer do commissions openly is mainly a personal issue with handling other people's ideas in art. Long story short I become a literal mess once my creative freedom gets taken away. My brain is just not built to cater other peoples thoughts and ideas, so thus I don't stress myself about it and stay closed to the public.
ALTHOUGH, not all hope is lost! Lately, I've kept an open door policy on requests. I plan to change how I do these now and they can be referred to as "Mystery Box Requests."
How Mystery Box Requests work
Mystery Box Requests work more like a raffle where it's not guaranteed you will get an idea drawn once submitted. Basically, they're art requests you throw towards me in hopes that I would accept and draw. Send me a DM on either telegram or IB (I no longer use discord for art), and let me know what you would like me to do! Simple! Here's the catch.. If I choose to accept it, what you get in return will be sort of a random crate of sorts. You could get a doodle, or even a full blown painting if you butter me up with the right ideas.
Do Mystery Requests cost money?
Simply sending a request costs absolutely nothing! Money will only be involved AFTER the art is completed or doodled. Depending on what you receive, I will ask how much YOU THINK is an appropriate amount to pay for it. DO NOT FEEL OBLIGATED TO PAY ME! Free can be an answer! If you are adamant about paying money, give me a range of your budget beforehand with your request. Sometimes I will draw for free depending on the mood but its all part of the mystery! Examples of requests below.
Good Example 1: Hi! I love your art and would love to see you draw my girl! I'm not looking for a really big thing since I don't have any money but I would love to see what you come up with! End Result: I gave them a full painting for free!
Good Example 2: Hey ya! I saw that you do requests and was hoping if you could draw my oc with your otter. I'm willing to compensate ya for your time depending on what I get! End Result: Offer accepted, and I drew them a hot scene without a background. They chose to tip me $80 wow!
Bad Example: Wassup Coma? Could I get a doodle of my boi naked in a side view with his pants on the ground all cute like? He's in the restroom with his friend who is in a 3/4 view with the shadow casting down on the floor in front of him. Also, can he include this cool sci fi ultra detailed uniform. They're fur color is magenta not purple and he has cool detailed dragon wings. I have $50, what do you say? End Result: Offer declined, too specific and also I don't know what a $50 painting looks like.. also wut? I draw cartoon cubs not sci fi detailed dragon boys
REALLY IMPORTANT: Do NOT assume that simply because you contacted me, it will guarantee I draw something in return. Remember its a request (w/ tips), not a commission. I'm not a fan of being ordered around. Be nice to the ottie plz!

Content News
Most of the content I'm doing currently is setting up for 2024, which will include a new thing from me.. Comics! I have two of them in the works. One of them is an origin story with Jae and her father and the other is a short comic with Jae and Basil. Both of these comics are intertwined.

Thanks to all the supporters here! Because of you guys I was able to build my new art machine! While currently it's going steady in terms of numbers I'm working on ways to improve my content. The biggest one is the beginning of the comics. Once that begins, I will edit the tiers to include the comic pages exclusively. The new tiers will be posted at a later date but basically instead of just a $6 and $12 tier, it will now be a $5, $8, and $12 tier.

Glad you’re going well. Regarding Bluesky, unfortunately it seems the current instance isn’t a fan of cub/underage content; I’ve seen a couple artists get banned already, which I’m not seeing happen with adult-porn artists. So we may need to wait for Bsky to launch federation and for a cub-friendly server to pop up before cub art can be posted safely.
