Bio: Obvious Fire Fly is a care free mare. Spending much of her time grazing, but when the urge hits her, she enjoys racing the wind. Her wings are marked like that of a hawk's, and often times, many prey animals when seeing her in the air, think of her as such, a giant winged bird out to get them and eat them. However, they soon learn their mistake when they see her land.

Real life Bio (Word count: 1,222): I met Fire Fly as I called her, via the time I lived in another town. Her owner had discovered her to be too high strung for his 2 daughters, who were much too young to handle a hot headed mare who had her own opinions on when things should be done and how they should be done.

My first mistake was free leasing her for 2yrs and allowing my now ex friend to sign the lease form, however, because I was boarding and living on her farm, we decided that that was for the best. However that summer, my ex boyfriend caused some major issues thus preventing me from being near my horse for an entire summer.

Then winter hit and my ex friend's daughter left her high and dry just several weeks before a major operation. Again, she called upon me. Not knowing her real reasons behind having me move in, this was my second mistake simply because she was buying things for me left, right and center, and using her savings, money she said she couldn't replace (meanwhile her husband is loaded and actually bought her farm in full).

Not knowing any of her plans to drain me dry, I began to pay off people who I had prior commitments too. In total I paid out $710 for hay, farrier and vet, only to discover, that the $2000 she had been using on me (when I kept declining), had been meant for her second mortgage payment. Surprisingly, she bought a $3000 stallion, and instead of returning him to get her money back, kept the horse, and sold off her horses and my own while I was away.

The day the guy came to pick my beloved mare up, I had been in town with her former owner, discussing days when he could come and get her and bring her back to his place. I had no knowledge of what my ex friend had had in store, and when I got home to go riding, I discovered my horse was missing and my friend looking rather smug.

It was her daughter who then informed me of what had happened while I had been out and a desperate search began to find my stolen mare but no one was talking and I knew then, my ex friend had paid the guy off to keep his mouth shut. I was heart broken in many many ways, as Fly was only the second horse I'd ever truly connected with.

That winter, I moved out and moved in with my mom and stepdad. My mare was never far from my mind and my mom understood my agony however my stepdad despised hearing about it as he hated my ex friend's guts and for good reasons of his own. However, this lead to him and my mom fighting one night about it, with her stating he simply didn't understand how hurt I was and that the not knowing if my mare, who I knew was pregnant, was dead or alive was in fact, eating away at me.

Then 2013 rolled in without so much as the world coming to an end like so many had been saying it would. In fact, I woke up to the world's worst hang over and a snow storm. My mare was pushed to the back of my mind and it wasn't until June 1, that someone contacted me stating they had my horse. I was over the moon with joy, but it was to be short lived. On July 30, we had a series of severe thunderstorms roll into Ontario, many of them bring heavy rains, hail and tornadoes. One such storm, hit the riding school where my mare was stabled. I just happened to be visiting a farm next door when the frantic phone call came in that the owners could hear a horse screaming.

Now, many may not know this but yes, horses do in fact scream. Stallions will scream during a fight, and injured horses, like those with a broken leg, will also scream due to the sudden pain that goes through their bodies. When the owners went outside, I recognized the scream and my heart sank. Firefly had this distinct scream when she was mad and this was her scream that I was hearing, only, it wasn't out of anger, it was agony I heard in her voice.

The roads were impassable. The wind having knocked and uprooted many trees, and thus the vet wasn't able to get through and even if he had wanted too, the fear that there was a tornado in the area had many running for cover. So I rushed over and a search of the field soon brought us to where my beloved mare laid on the ground, a branch about as thick as my arm, right clean through her withers.

We quickly took photos and emailed them to the vet who quickly determined that even if we could get her to the clinic, the limb would have to be removed and due to the amount of blood, he could only guess that a minor artery had been severed along with a spinal injury. He told me that she had less than 5% chance of recovering.

I have always vowed that my animals will never suffer. If I can prevent it, I will and I will do so by any means necessary. That day I loaded the owners .22 and after saying goodbye, pressed the opening to my mare's head and pulled the trigger. She never even screamed. Quick....painless...and with mercy. We then rushed to save her foal, who we knew was to term but would die if we didn't cut my mare open.

However, I knew the second we pulled him out, that he wouldn't live. Not even an hr old and I could tell that the Impressive gene was causing serious hind end issues. Called Impressive Syndrome also know as hyperkalemic periodic paralysis (HYPP), it causes muscle spasms that can be so severe, your horse is unable to stand altogether. When one such episode left Fire Fly's Stormy unable to even stand after 4 hrs several months after he was born, we did the ultimate humane thing and we put him to sleep.

Thus ended my want to own a horse. With the death of Stormy, came the end of my desire to own another horse. Was it fear? Probably. My mare's blood stained my hands and even though it was of no fault of my own, I still wonder "What if I had moved her prior to the buyer showing up? What if I had known what my ex friend's plans were?" The many what ifs that roll through my head, are what makes me pause when I even let the thought of buying another horse cross my mind. Perhaps one day I'll own another horse, but for now, I'm content with the memories I have, of a great chestnut mare, whose coat shone like wildfire on a hot summer's day, who tested me whenever we rode, and who, at my darkest of times, was my burning light to guide me.

I'll never forget my chestnut mare, nor will I forget the lessons we learned together, nor the times that we shared chasing the wind.

Why I Love Asgardians (Word count: 411): This breed appeals to me simply because you don't have a deadline to do a reference image of the horse you buy. I've never been good with deadlines, even if they're 30 days, 60 days or whatever. I like doing art in my own time, at my own speed/pace. I have found that being on a deadline for art, makes the outcoming art look rushed and I despise that. The other part to why I like this breed, is the fact that the horses have 2 sets of wings, thus making them look like them dragons from Avatar. I like/love that aspect that, while these smaller wings may not be of much use, they are unique to this breed and this breed alone. The other part that I like is the potions. I love free potions, to where your horse doesn't have to be this level in blood quality to have this potion or that potion. I also enjoy being apart of a drama free group. Many other groups state they are drama free but behind closed doors, there is in fact, alot of drama that goes unseen, and often times, unheard of unless the member makes it known to the general public and even then, venting about your experiences seems to be a major no no and can/could result in your removal from said group (I discovered this the hard way when venting about a group on here, on FB.)

I also like how the owner has set things up. There's none of these constant out pouring of imports to where there's not enough people to actually get the horse they are after (however, I do't like how some just jump on the bidding ban wagon when they weren't even involved prior thus ruining a friendly bidding war). I've also enjoyed taking part in the contest that recently was on going. Although I knew I didn't stand much of a chance of wining, I enjoyed being apart of it anyways.

But most of all, I simply love the laid back, relaxed, friendly atmosphere that the group gives off. The group owner and admins are very understanding, and they enjoy helping out when it's needed/wanted. I enjoy that the most about this group. I enjoy the fact you aren't stuck waiting for days on end for a reply to a comment or a note. So I'd have to say that's what I love most about the group.
