Hitomi smiled as she walked up to Henry Dailey and nodded. "Good day for a race isn't it Mr. Dailey?" She asked as he smiled at her. "Hitomi, you look just like your mother and I know your father would be proud of you. Now for the last time, call me Henry! And yes it is! It's a fine day for a race." He smiled as she laughed then nodded. "Blackstar is 5 years old. I don't expect her to win this race against your Legacy, but if she does, I would like to invite you and Alec over to the farm for a few weeks to rest up." She stated as Henry nodded but then all eyes turned to the gates. Soon the bell clanged and 9 horses bursts from their stalls. Hitomi quickly began to monitor her mare's progress. She had good reasons to worry. Fresh from a leg injury that had seen her on stall rest for nearly 5 months, the mare had only just gone back into training when the vet bill had come in. For some unknown reason, the other farm, whose horse had caused the accident, hadn't covered the bill, like they had promised. Money that would of went onto the bill, was then put onto a new roof for the mare barn.
Hitomi was kicking her ass on that one, and thus her mare had been pulled out of training nearly 3 months early, and thrust into a high priced stakes race. The prize money of nearly $100,000 would see the bill paid and money left over. "And here they come down the back stretch. It looks like the favorite Blackstar, is trailing behind, but oh look! She's passing horse after horse to come up and challenge the leader! Shetan's Legacy and her are battling it out folks! Who will it be!?" Hitomi kept her eyes locked on the track as the mare suddenly began to drop her pace, but it wasn't enough for the big gray colt to catch her as they passed the wire. "And it's Blackstar to win by 2 lengths with Shetan's Legacy a close second!" Called the announcer as she heaved a heavy sigh of relief, before shaking Henry's hand. "It was a close one!" He laughed as they made their way onto the track to get their horses.
In the winner's circle, Hitomi and Jason both smiled but their main worry was for a horse who loved to run, who had nearly kicked her stall down just to do so, who now, had nearly lost a race that should of been a cinch for her. Once they were back at their barn, Hitomi slowly ran her hands down her mare's right front, and sighed. "There's heat and swelling." She whispered as Jason sighed but looked up when he spotted a concerned Alec and Henry coming their way. "Is she okay!?" Asked Alec, knowing he had accidentally bumped the big black mare coming around one turn. "She should be okay but I'll need to rest her, ice her leg, and ease her back into these harder races." Replied Hitomi as she smiled up to him. "Don't worry Alec, the bump didn't cause this." She stated as he nodded before rubbing Blackstar's nose.
Back at the farm, Hitomi laughed as they sat on the side porch that faced the mare's paddock. "So Alec, how is the Black doing?" She asked as Alec smiled. "He's doing really great! Although, he hates it when he sees us leaving without him." He stated as Hitomi laughed softly. "Well, I would like to make a business offer. Blackstar only has two maybe three more races if that, left in her, and then I plan on retiring her to the breeding shed for 4 years. I was wondering if you would be interested in a colt or filly sired by your big black stallion and damed by my mare?" She asked as Alec looked to Henry in shock. "Would I ever!" He yelled as Hitomi laughed. "Then it's settled. In 3 years time, I will have her shipped to Hopeful Farms. I may even invest in shipping my entire stock down near you on a farm I have been eyeing up!" She laughed as Jason groaned. "See what I have to live with!" He protested in good humor as everyone laughed at him.
