About

This was the last Myrr song I wrote while still playing Vanguard.

Myrr Thistletail was my little Raki (fox people) vixen character on Vanguard, and she was always trying to become a famous bard. In this number, she's singing about a Gataro, which are lizard monsters near the main Raki town in the game, just up-river. But she sings it from a Gataro's perspective.

In the game, the song was found on an old scratchy record, though Myrr was nowhere to be found... The Raki News house where she worked was a mess... maybe a Gataro attack? Who knows?

Technical
All voices done by me. Myrr's voice is of course heavily post-processed. However, this was my first attempt at doing jazz with her voice, which proved quite a challenge. I had to sing much softer, which my software did not like at all.

I sequenced the bass, drums and flute, and played the piano.

Release date: Aug 2009

Lyrics
Verse 1
Poor Gataro, Little Gataro
Hatched from his egg today
Knew no father, knew no mother
That's the Gataro way

One of a hundred, Little Gataro
Crawled in his nest, so vast
Brothers and sisters, most to be wiped out
Dwindling their numbers fast

Eat, grow big!
Little Gataro, life is brief!
Swim and dig!
There's no time for woe and grief

Poor Gataro, Little Gataro
One of the twelve alive
Most of his siblings, eaten or crushed
And more would fail to survive

Verse 2
Poor Gataro, Little Gataro
Delved into riverlands
Hissed at by Rippers, clawed at by Guardians
Heedless of their demands

Fleeing from others, Little Gataro
Strayed from the river's path
Ran up against the biggest Gataro
And faced Endaron's wrath

Find your place!
Little Gataro, aim for the sky!
Join the chase!
Else, you will starve and soon you will die!

Poor Gataro, Little Gataro
Finally found his role
First in line, defense to the south
The Ca'ial Brael patrol

Verse 3
Poor Gataro, Little Gataro
Met with his fate today
Doing his job, defending his river
That's the Gataro way

Raki arrived and Little Gataro
Did what he knew was best
Ran toward them, teeth at the ready
And failed life's final test

You've no chance!
Little Gataro, Raki have spears
Sword and lance
Victorious Raki, Hugs and cheers

Poor Gataro, Little Gataro
Speared and then dragged to town
Raki cubs did have you for dinner
And... you're no longer...

The pic shows what seems to be a soundsheet. I have many of those, many from ads for albums. A few from National Geographic, many from Time-Life Records. Now they don't make them anymore. EvaTone. I take good care of them, as I can not replace them.

Now it's all CD's and DVD's.

Insofar there is any physical media at all. This production never existed outside Photoshop and Sonar, alas. Though it'd be fun to physically press this in vinyl, I doubt that anyone would buy it. :)

Cheers!

There was surface scratch in the simulated vinyl. Just like all the records I have. Some are old.

This is pretty much what life is really like. Constant fighting for survival, in some cases from the moment of birth (because the eggs are provided with proper sourse of warmth and hiding, and then abandoned.). Large number of eggs because the chance for survival after birth is minimal.

In some species, the sole purpose is to reproduce mindlessly (parasitic worms mostly). It disproves intelligent creation.

There is intelligent creation. We're the ones doing it! :)
