Ah always fun to revisit Lowell. Quite happy with how this pic of him turned out. ^^
Savan smiled as he lifted a freshly changed Lowell off of the changing table still dressed in only his diaper on the floor. The little Folf's excitement was bursting at the seems and no sooner had his cybernetic feet touched the floor he was scampering on off out of the room. Lowell had been talking about the Meteor shower for days now and was quite excited to see it. Savan was quite happy to see his son so excited. The middle aged raptor hadn't needed to do much to instill in his son a love and wonder for learning new things and for the universe. Lowell was just drawn to these things and the fact his daddy studied them for a living made Savan practically a super hero in his eyes. Lowell wanted to know and understand as much as he could and to see anything he could with his own eyes. So it didn't take him long to reach the back porch. Savan was quite proud of the porch he'd built with the help of his brother. It even had an all weather carpet to make it that much more comfortable.
"Is it almost time daddy?" Lowell asked excitedly as he scampered over to one of the tables on the porch and gazed skyward.
"Almost." Savan said after a glance at his watch as he settled into a comfortable chair nearby.
"Oh! Look there's one one already!" Lowell pointed as the first meteor was sighted. Shortly after that a second, then more quickly a third, and on until they were falling all across the sky. Streaks of light dropping out of the sky as if the stars themselves had grown tired of their perpetual dance in the night sky. Lowell stood there for some time leaning on the table enraptured by the spectacle of nature before him before a thought occurred to him. "Why do they call them shooting stars? Their not being shot out of anything and their not really stars."
"Well way back when people first started seeing them they didn't understand what stars really were. White things falling out of the sky, maybe looking as if they'd been fired from some great catapult or some such, looked to them as if the stars were failing or shooting from the sky itself." Savan explained as he gazed up at the night sky too.
"Oh I guess that makes sense if they didn't really know. They do kinda look like that." Lowell nodded as he turned around and made his way over to Savan and climbed up onto his lap snuggling up. "We know what they really are. Big rocks left over after the solar system got made. From the Asteroid Belt."
"That's right. Some of them might even be from the Kiper Belt too. That's farther out past Pluto and is a lot more spaced out even though it has lots more asteroids." Savan said with a smile proud of his son yet still instilling a lil something new. Lowell just smiled and snuggled up a bit as his head turned skyward once more.
"Sure is pretty too. Almost like fireworks." Lowell commented quietly as he watched.
"The cosmos putting on a show for us almost." Savan nodded in agreement rubbing his son's back gently.
The two sat there father and son enjoying the show of the cosmos before them quietly exchanging comments on the scene and talking about space even as the Meteor Shower subsided. Eventually though Savan noticed Lowell's eyes getting heavy and with the show over he rose with his son in his arms and made his way back inside. Lowell rested his head on his dad's shoulder and before they even reached the stairs was already asleep. Savan expertly tucked Lowell into his bed placing his plush raptor in his arms and tucked him in without waking him. He gave Lowell a kiss on the forehead before leaving his Little Star Gazer to dream of exploring the universe as the light to his room went out the night light cast stars upon the ceiling for the little star gazer as he dreamed.
