As sequels go, the Tron one is not that bad. It updates the visual style and the "games" to modern standards. Some people have complained that the story is kind of lame of simplistic... I guess they don't remember how ridiculous the original premise was.

I don't like sequels because they mangle the original concept of the first story. In "The Lurker at the Threshold" the hero risks, life,limb -and sanity- putting a stop to Yog-Sothoth's forays on Earth. In a Lin Carter sequel "The Winfield Inheritance" the hero succumbs to the temptations of the Yuggya servants of Ubb.
Also witness the repeated sequels to the original "Planet of the Apes". I saw them all and do not cherish the memory...

The premise of computer programs being live people can be compared to cartoon characters living and holding jobs like humans do, in reality !. Look at Gary Wolf*'s WHO CENSORED ROGER RABBIT and the movie WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT which used the characters in a new story. With this logic, you;'d expect Alvin & the Chipmunks to be touring the USA in reality ! Gary Wolf's film-noir big-tough-detective novel.
