Eternal Forest - 2 - OH! Pawpets! Road Trip

EF-17 Just Passing Through

Over on the paved lane running the length of one side of the Eternal Forest, the local animals heard the vehicle coming long before it came into sight. But once it came into sight, what they saw made them all do a double-take.

It was a fabulous pink Cadillac Convertible with Chrome curvy bands along the sides of the vehicle itself. There was a flaunting almost sexual fox like hood ornament pronouncing its beauty upon the front of the classic looking car. Seated behind the wheel was the one and the only, Fabulous Fox, driving the car in style with a smile on his oh so debonair muzzle. He had the stereo's DVD player issuing forth the Pink Cadillac song for all to hear.

Seated in the front passenger side was the ferret known as Bwing who was reading over a newspaper about his friends shenanigans over in the Vatican City.

Directly behind Fabulous with his head stuck out of the window was that lovable canine, the ever producing fluid-meister himself known only as Slobber. Earlier during the trip, vehicles behind the pink classic were getting huge globs of drool all over their windshields and since then, they hadn't seen a single vehicle behind them after they departed Virginia.

In the center of the back seat was that famed and multi-talented puppeteer known as SonicBlu who was dressed up in his Weird Al Yankovik clothes (an amazingly good likeness, in truth) as he was grooving to the stereo's tunes.

And last but not least, seated on the other side of the puppeteer and directly behind Bwing the ferret, as far away from the over-sexual fox as he could get, was Ozark who was trying to admire the forested surroundings simply so he could avoid being sucked into a fabulous conversation. Like that ever worked...

They had been down south to pick up a prize for a contest that Fabulous had entered and they were all surprised to learn that the convertible was indeed the prize. They could have had the vehicle shipped to Ohio overnight, but Fabulous wanted to show it off as he drove it home with his friends on board. They had a show in a few days to perform, but Fabulous had chosen to take a small detour that would lead them into an adventure within the hometown of the Beach Bears... Huntington West Virginia.

"Don't you just think that this vehicle is just simply... well, fabulous, like yours truly?" asked the stylish fox behind the wheel.

Bwing remarked from behind the newspaper, "How many times are you going to ask us that question, Fab? We already told you what we think."

Fabulous smiled. "Yes, but there has been a holdout in comments. My lover... he knows who he is... has not told me what he thinks." A deliberate pause. "...isn't that right, Ozark?"

Ozark jerked around and shouted, "Tar-nation! We are NOT lovers! Stop saying that! I'd marry a dragon before I'd marry you!"

SonicBlu commented, "Better not let him hear you say that or you might end up on Brimstone Mountain with a clutch of eggs."

Slobber was heard to add, "Huh yuh yuh huh yuh ya!" causing more drool to fly behind the vehicle slicking up the roadway unintentionally.

Bwing grinned. "Yeah, I've heard he has been looking for a mate. You might have some competition, Fabulous."

Fabulous was about to comment on that when suddenly and without warning everyone in the classic car heard and felt one of the tires making a classic complaint.

POP; Hssssss!

"Good thing we have a spare," the fox started to comment as he began to stop the vehicle, but that is when the second tire followed suit.

POP; Hssssss!

At that point the vehicle was stopped in nearly the middle of the paved roadway. Fabulous while still facing directly ahead stated, "...but I don't have two spares."

Everyone growled briefly, but then Fabulous brightened up instantly as he pointed over the windshield toward a road sign. They were at the city limits sign of Huntington. "We're here, guys! We can go to the nearest service station and have them change the tires for us. And while they are doing that, I can show you around Huntington, a place that I think is simply... need I say it? Fabulous... like yours truly."

EF-18 Motel Sharing

Once the pink Cadillac Convertible was in the shop, SonicBlu told his friends something that was sure to cause a little friction.

"They told me that they would have the tires changed in three days because of all of the recent influx of business. I prepaid the tire repairs so we wouldn't have to worry about it later. However, we only have enough money left for meals and... three motel rooms for three days. I have to have a room to myself because I am a big guy and I have to make a bunch of phone calls back home to the others. As for the other two rooms, you four have to decide on that."

Fabulous smiled and looked at Ozark with a loving smile. "I know who I want - IN BED!"

"No!" the sheepdog replied immediately. "I'd rather share Bwing's room."

Bwing said, "No thank you, Ozark. You snore. I want Slobber because he can enjoy the carpeted floors in my room while I am reading the financial pages - in bed."

Slobber simply panted and looked excited.

SonicBlu said, "I didn't know you played the stock market, Bwing."

Bwing replied, "I don't play with cattle; my broker helps me to make money."

Fabulous smiled as Ozark again. "You heard the ferret, lover boy. You have to share my room now. And what fun we will have." He paused for effect. "-IN BED!"

Ozark quickly moved away from the amorous fox. "NO! NO! A thousand times no! I'd rather sleep in the forest than to share a room with you!" And he ran off toward the Eternal Forest.

EF-19 Cooking With SonicBlu

Across the street from the motel was a cafe where SonicBlu and Bwing were now seated at a table looking over the menus while Bwing tried to read the financial section, looking for the stocks that he had money invested in. Perhaps the only thing that made this task more difficult was that SonicBlu kept asking Bwing questions about the stock market.

This went on until Bwing flipped down the top of the newspaper and peered over the top at SonicBlu and he remarked, "Don't you think it's time for one of your cooking segments?"

SonicBlu blinked his eyes and brightened up at that statement. "Why yes! I think you're right, Bwing!"

And he stood up and walked directly toward the kitchen of the cafe and began looking into their own refrigerator and cabinets, and then he turned and looked at the chefs and waitresses within as he said, "Yes, we have all the right ingredients on hand to make..."

Broccoli and Spicy Shrimp Dinner*

Ingredients:

1/4 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
2 tsp soy sauce
1 tbsp vegetable oil
3/4 lb fresh or frozen and thawed medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 garlic clove, minced
1-2 tsp chili puree (depending on your taste buds)
2 tsp fresh ginger, grated
1 1/2 cups broccoli flowerets
1 medium red bell pepper, cut into fine strips
4 green onions, cut into small pieces
1/3 cup peanuts (optional)

Instructions:

In a bowl, combine, chicken broth, cornstarch, hoisin sauce, water, oyster sauce, soy sauce and chilli puree.

Heat oil in a large skillet or wok. Add shrimp, ginger and garlic and stir-fry for about 1 minute. Add the vegetables and fry until the shrimp are done (i.e. pink and firm). Stir in the chicken broth mixture, bring to a quick boil and, while stirring constantly, cook for a further minute. Sprinkle with the peanuts and serve immediately over hot rice or rice noodles.

...once the dinner was prepared, SonicBlu then presented the completed dish and placed it on the counter for all to see. "And that is how you make a Broccoli and Spicy Shrimp Dinner. And remember, friends... If you're not cooking right, you're not eating right."

Everyone in the cafe applauded as he took his bows and got compliments from the chefs.

Bwing grinned from behind his newspaper. Works every time.

EF-20 Dipper and the Doggy

Dipper and Bobby had been returning from the nearby park when for perhaps the first time Bobby shouted, "DIPPER! WATCH OUT!"

But the warning came a little late, as the young bear was taken down by a very fast moving and extremely excited drooly dog! Who in turn began to lick and slurp Dipper all over as fast as he could lick!

"No! No!" exclaimed Dipper as he lay there with that lovable Slobber atop him. "Make him stop! Stop! No! Not there!" And then Dipper was laughing from the ticklish sensations of being licked and slurped all over his lower region. "AUGHHH! No! Please stop!"

Bobby shouted, "Off! Get off! Bad dog!"

Then the over excited doggy stopped and looked at the porcupine, and he had never experienced a porcupine before, therefore... he made the leap toward Bobby...

...who quickly crouched into a fetal position which cause his quills to stick out like a massive pincushion!

Following that, was the rapid fleeing of the doggy yelping all the way with his tail between his legs. "Arh! Arh! Arh! Arh!" And needles sticking out of his nose and tongue.

Bobby then uncurled himself and stood up slowly, and then he turned to help Dipper to his feet.

Both boys uttered the word of disgust at the same time. "Ewwww!"

Dipper frowned, "I'm covered in... Slobber! Now I need a bath!"

EF-21 The Hammock

The first night in the Eternal Forest was really brutal for Ozark. He kept hearing what sounded like soft wicked laughter in the wind itself, followed by someone telling the other to be quiet or else, and at one point a feminine yell echoed through the woods.

The next morning, cold and somewhat lost, Ozark pulled himself out of the underbrush where he had made a bed in the leaves and trudged quietly through the misty forest.

It was so damned quiet out there. And that was perhaps the worst. Entering the forest at night without a map was not a bright idea. Now Ozark was tired and hungry and just wanted to get back to civilization.

And then he saw it...

Stretched between two trees next to a strange looking building was a hammock with a blanket and a pillow. Ozark rubbed his eyes in disbelief. Like a desert mirage, there it was. A hammock.

"Is that..." He walked up slowly and gingerly reached out and touched the hammock. "It is. It's real. I hope the owner doesn't mind me using it. I am so tired and hungry." He got into the hammock and covered himself in the blanket... laying his head on the pillow.

He wasn't there long before that local were-kangaroo apothecary doctor, Reed Huxley, emerged from the lab in the back and stopped when he saw the tired dog in the hammock.

"D'aww, the poor bloke must 'ave gotten lost out 'ere. Ah'll go fetch 'im a meal and a drink."

And he hopped back inside the building. About an hour later, he came back out wheeling a tray to the side of the hammock where he felt the sheepdog's forehead and felt for his pulse.

Of course Ozark woke up at the feeling of being touched. "Wha-! Oh!"

"Calm down, mate," said the kangaroo. "Yer in my 'ammock, but it's okay. Yer beat and Ah brought yas a meal. Name's Reed 'uxley, the local 'erbal doctor. Welcome to the Eternal Forest."

"Ozark, Was on my way to Columbus Ohio and... I got lost in the woods here last night." He then accepted a plate of the food and took a drink of the herbal sweet tea. "Mmm, that's good. Thank you."

Huxley smiled and said, "Once yer rested, if yas want 'elp getting to Columbus, let me know and Ah can drive yas up there. Ah 'ave to go pick up a medical shipment so it's on my way."

The sheepdog couldn't help but to smile at the nice kangaroo, as he watched Huxley head back inside the apothecary building. "What a nice guy. Better eat while I can. This is good stuff."

EF-22 Columbus Bound

On the following morning came the good news that the tires were on and the pink car was ready to go.

"Anyone know where Ozark is?" asked SonicBlu as he glanced around at his friends.

Bwing replied, "He ran off into the woods back when we got our motel rooms. Remember?"

Fabulous was checking out the vehicle to make sure there were no scuffs or dings from the repairs. "I am sure he can take care of himself, guys. But if you'd like, I could get a bullhorn and announce to the forest that one fabulous fox is coming to find Ozark -- pun intended... in bed, of course."

Slobber whined as he had a band-aid over his nose still.

SonicBlu sighed. "I better call ahead and tell the others that Ozark is missing." And he dug out his cell phone and typed in the number to the show back home. After a few rings, the other end was picked up by Toast the Dragon. SonicBlu said, "Hey Toast, it's SonicBlu! Um, we lost Ozark down here in Huntington and we-"

Toast laughed. "That's funny cause Ozark is here right now! A really nice kangaroo stud brought him in and dropped him off! Fabulous has competition now! Consumer Fox and Twitch are talking to them outside right now!"

SonicBlu looked surprised, then he said, "Okay Toast. The rest of us will be home in a few hours. I'll tell Fabulous. See you soon." He turned off the cellphone and turned to the others. "Ozark is already back home. A kangaroo took him home. Toast said the Roo was a stud."

Fabulous balked. "NO! Ozark is MINE! We have to get up there right now and stop that kangaroo from stealing my lover! To the Foxmobile!"

And they all piled into the Pink Cadillac Convertible and Fabulous got the vehicle moving and on to the highway. Soon Huntington was well behind them and the fox looked forward to the next round with that sheepdog.

Eternal Forest - 3 - Weekend with the King
My characters from the "Eternal Forest" are officially part of MaxDeGroot's Beach Bears fictional world thanks to Max asking me if he could post the legal letter from Rock E. Coyote on his FA page. And since Rock Coyote is one of the characters in the Eternal Forest arc, their story needs to be told.

This is the second episode, OH! Pawpets! Road Trip.
