Aw, poor kitten. I hope she has a safe, healthy way to deal with her emotions and doesn't just try to bottle them up all the time. Though she does look awfully cute with that little grumpy face! I dunno why, but the combination of that angry look she's wearing, and the little hair clip and the heart on her t-shirt are just adorable, too! Though maybe I should wait 'til I'm out of range of her claws to say so...

Oh, she's normally a pretty contented girl~ I just wanted to experiment a bit with her character, and the way she'd handle herself. I did quite a few smaller expressions for her on paper - when I get a chance I'll scan and post them!
She's a lot of fun to draw - mostly because of her character, but also because I get to put her in cute outfits~ :3

my two favorite cats, norwegian forest cats and maine coons, besides being very large and very furry, are known as the "gentle giants" in the cat family for this very reason. they're both very calm, cautious and reserved.

Definitely! When I was about 7 or so, I rescued a Norwegian forest kitty that someone had abandoned at a state park. He would up living an absurdly long life for a cat, and was my best friend until his passing last year~ He was also the only cat my wife could tolerate...

I really like this particular shaded/toned style you've been doing with these. Not sure what the proper term might be. But it's really pretty, and I love how it brings out all the subtle contours such as her muzzle and the insides of her ears. The color you've used lends a nice sort of warmth to the image as well. I don't mean to be offering critique in any way. That's rather beyond me. But it really is a lovely style.
Also, you do a really lovely job with drawing children. I've always thought you had a really good grasp of childish proportions and body shapes. Maybe that's just stating the obvious, but I've found that it isn't something everyone can do well.
I really like her expression. The subtlety of it just makes it all the more threatening, even with as young as she is. With people who explode into tantrums, it's often over quickly, but the ones who quietly seethe can be really dangerous. Though I have to say she does look pretty cute here, too. It's the hair-clip, I think. And the freckles.

I've been calling it monochrome, but I dunno if that's an official name or anything~ The shade of purple was originally (and still is) the most common tone I use for shading my colored pictures. It just happens to look great for sketching, too!
I'm glad to see it well received, though - I've worried that the lack of colors would come off as "unfinished". To be honest, I think my colors are sub-par compared to the other work I do. Working with various densities of a single color, however, feels more relaxing and easier to express myself~
Proportions have been a learning process! About a year or so ago and onward, I was drawing the most bizarre sort of chibis... with the head taking up 50% of the entire body... I'm glad I got over that. Probably helps that I work with kids for a living, too!
She's a fun one to do emotions with, though! Her cheek tufts and cowlick can even follow along with facial muscles for added effects~ I don't see this as a 'base emotion' for her, or even all that common of one. I've been looking up a variety of "Expression Meme" templates while at work, and picking the ones that seem the most interesting.
Thank you for your kind words ^^

Nice one! Do love this approach to art when you do it; the pink/purple goes well with the soft tones, especially on her face :). Interesting expression too; as you say very restrained (makes her look like a teen XD). You did a good job with it I vote.
Damn how can something so adorable look so... cold?! XD (We'll get more twizzlers, honest!).
