This is December 18th, 1915, somewhere between the Angolan towns of Huambo and Lobito.

A genet and a mongoose crosses the tracks just before that Lobito bound train out of Huambo passes by.

The train is approaching at a speed between 70 and 80 kmh (45 and 50 mph), which was a pretty good speed for a train back in those days.

There is also a slideshow of this pic with the sound effect of an approaching steam engine pulled train:

I drew the tracks, ballast bed, lake, dirt road, clearance cut for the road and tracks, the two animals and the headlight to the locomotive.
Most of the trees and sky are from pieces of pictures I took when I was cruising around the Central Florida area.
I drew some of the trees and clouds where I blended the tree and sky pictures together to make it look natural.

An upcoming posting will have more of this scenery with greater detail in the foreground. What's shown here is only a piece of the far off distant background. That will be posted after I make figurines of two of my permanent characters to draw from. Those will be two mongooses crossing the tracks to go fishing at the lake...which by the way will have a few sexy play pics in it.

My dad used to paint things like this. He still does but not as often.

The trees, bushes and sky came from photos I took around the Central Florida area. I pieced parts of the photos together to make a scenery. The rest of everything else I have drawn.

BTW, check out the Youtube video from the hotlink. It almost makes you feel like you are there.

I would never cross the tracks with a train oncoming at that distance. As a song I heard on a 78rp in my childhood says ..
"Trains go fast
when they go past..."

There seem to be a lot of trains in your tale. That or proximity to a rail line.
