Wow... just wow, what can I say? This is the first comic I've posted for literally over a year. Believe it of not, this burden actually predates a number of my previous strips and goes back nearly three years! It didn't literally take me that long to to produce this, that would be silly, but collectively that's how long this piece has existed for in a largely unfinished state. I was initially excited to get this produced at the time and really wanted to get the ball rolling. However, in the early stages I had a gigaton of overtime at work, and I was working twelve hours a day. This had a knock on effect, as I was getting home too tired to be productive. As time passed I just didn't like the direction it was heading in, so I just shelved it and worked on other simpler projects instead in a vein effort to forget about it. No matter how Hard I tried, the thought of this piece just constantly lingered in my mind. There is nothing worse than unfinished business, so I finally mustered as much resolve as possible to get the thing finished. So finally, here I am... I dreamed this day would come *faints* I just hope all the effort is worth it ^^;
Anyway, Sonic Adventure is one of my favourite games of all time, I kid you not. Arguably the most well developed character in the game is E 102 Gamma, don't you just love that robot? However, one of the reasons why this strip has caused me so much grief is Gamma's design, I absolutely hate it. The design works well as a primitive 3D model, but his design is quite difficult to interpret unless you have some good reference material to work from. Even the colour coordination is ambiguous due to the mass of promotional art not sticking to the original model found in the actual game.
Youtube was particularly useful for getting reference for other elements such as the environmental design and Tails' Tornado biplane :p So... yeah, the project did involve a lot of of grinding and watching video stills.
This will be the last strip I will ever produce solely with Photoshop. I'm thinking about integrating Illustrator into my workflow, particularly for the line art. Photoshop is amazing for colouration and soft brushes, but an absolute pain for lines.
I really hope people enjoy this, because I found myself hating every moment of its production. PLEASE HEAL MY WOUNDS! Ha, just kidding, just enjoy ;p
E 102 Gamma, Sonic, Tails, Froggy and all other assets belong to Sega.
