notes before reading
this is not written like a story, this is an event list with some dialogue
this is meant to play out similar to the way some episodes of svu play out
a tragic event leads to an investigation that uncovers another separate event
the kids are 8 and 9 years old
SCENE 1
· this story takes place after izzy hosted a weekend sleepover
· it's sunday afternoon and izzy is saying goodbye to jules and miranda who is being picked up by her dad(who normally lives far far away but has recently gotten a house closer to his daughter)
· over in the mcintosh kitchen Tay and Becky are having an argument, most likely over something that happened over the weekend
· Tay "i told you the boy team would win"
· tay is referring to when they were playing video games and because miranda didn't want to play they got tay to join
· Becky "ugh, how many times do i have to tell you, just because you were on jules' team does not make it the boy team"
· Tay(going into his i'm losing the argument pout) "but i'm a boy, and we won"
· Becky(exhausted) "tay, jules got every kill, you didn't score a single point"
· tay angrily runs at becky and shoves her to the ground
· Tay(standing over becky) "boys will always be better than stupid girls"
· becky without thinking uses her power to push tay off of her, tay goes flying into the kitchen counter his head slamming very hard against the corner, causing his body to fall limp to the ground
· Izzy(walking into the kitchen) "ok, enough you two"
· izzy arrives to the sight of her brother laying on the ground on one side of the kitchen and becky standing on the other side with a look of terror on her face
· Izzy "T-Tay"
· The next scene is izzy, brenda and jason sitting in a hospital hallway
· a woman is seen walking toward the family
· the family stands up
· the woman introduces herself as Detective Anita Killian of Sugna's Special Victims Unit
· jason instructs izzy to go get something out of the vending machine
· as she's walking away she's halted by the sound of her mother crying
· she turns around to see her mother collapsing to the ground in her fathers arms
· izzy's eyes start to tear up as she starts to run toward the room she saw them take her brother into
· she is stopped by her father but is struggling to escape his hold
· all while screaming his name "TAAAAYY" "WHERE"S MY BROTHER" "I WANNA SEE MY BROTHER"
· she eventually calms enough that she is just crying into her fathers arm
· jason trying to stay strong for his family holds on to them
SCENE 2
· two weeks later over at the precinct, detective killian is having a conversation with her captain in the squad room as he is about to head home
· Captain(noticing Anita is still working and hasn't head home yet) "you still working that mcintosh case"
· Detective Killian "yeah, but i'm not getting far"
· Captain "well, you could just give it back to homicide"
· Detective Killian "i just can't do that, there is something off about this whole thing"
· Captain "didn't the kid confess when EMS showed up, why haven't you brought her in for a talk"
· Detective Killian "Her mother pulled the lawyers and is refusing to let us go near her"
· Captain "why would she do that, this was clearly an accident, the kid won't serve a day"
· Detective Killian "what if... It wasn't an accident, what if they're protecting someone" the detective looks through her notes again pulling tay's autopsy report "here we are, that's what was off about this, the injuries Taylor sustained couldn't have possibly been caused by a child"
· Captain "who could they be defending that a little girl would be willing to take the rap"
· Detective Killian "i don't know, but i'm going to find out"
SCENE 3
· Upon arriving at the Hitoshi household Detective Killian knocks on the door, there's no answer, she tries again
· Detective Killian “Mrs. Hitoshi, please answer the door, i'm not going away”
· Becky's mother milly answers the door
· Milly "please don't do this, i don't care what she said, becky did not do this"
· The detective sighs "i know"
· Milly "what"
· Detective Killian "i think your daughter is protecting someone"
· Milly (confused knowing of her daughters guilt) "who?"
· Detective Killian "i don't know, but i believe whoever it is, is using your daughter as a scapegoat knowing she will likely get off with little to no punishment,
· Milly has a look of worry, she knows that her daughter is guilty and wants to protect her but also knows that she is only making them look guiltier
· Detective Killian "please, let me talk with her"
· Milly "let me send her friends home and i'll bring her down"
· In becky's room she is talking with her friends jules and miranda who she is seeing for the first time in weeks
· Becky "has anyone heard from iz"
· Miranda "no, she doesn't wanna see anyone, she won't come out of her room"
· becky looks over at jules, she's been sitting quiet all day, she appears to have been hit by this alot harder than you'd expect
· Becky "jules, are you feeling ok?"
· Jules (grabbing her legs to her chest) "i just can't believe he's gone" as she talks it becomes apparent that she had gone back to wearing the fake tooth she used to wear when she was chasing tay
· A knock comes from her door
· Milly "i'm sorry becky, but your friends need to head home, the detective wants to ask you a few questions"
· Becky "ok mom"
· Miranda "detective?, what kind of detective?"
· Becky "she's works for the SVU"
· Miranda "S...V...U?"
· Jules a little more like her normal self "Special Victims Unit, i love that show"
· Miranda "show? You're gonna be on tv?"
· Becky "no, they handle cases involving sexual assault and crimes against children, i'm going to answer questions about what i saw sunday night"
· Miranda(in a soft tone to herself) "sexual assault and crimes against children"
· Jules "oh yeah, that reminds me, you never told us what actually happened"
· Becky freezes up too afraid to tell the truth "um"
· "BECKY" a voice is heard outside her room
· "i will, just... not right now"
SCENE 4
· Being a child becky is taken to the precincts child area where they have tons of toys in a corner and coloring books on a small table that has a small seat for a kid and a seat for the adult
· Becky is told that she can have her mother in the room if she wants
· Becky refuses, telling her mom to stay outside
· Detective Killian "ok, Rebecca, can you tell me what happened at the sleepover?"
· Becky "i already said, me and tay were arguing, he got mad and pushed me, and i pushed him back and he hit his head"
· She obviously leaves out any mention of her powers at the request of her mother milly and sister melissa
· The detective (who is convinced someone much older is responsible for this) notices that she is holding something back
· She starts asking about other people she is suspect of
· Detective Killian "let's talk about someone else, what was taylor's relationship with Rex Rabish"
· Becky "they're Friends, Why"
· Detective Killian "really? i heard he bullied taylor for a while, he even blew up the mcintosh's treehouse, that doesn't sound very friend like"
· Becky "they were just trying to catch santa!"
· the detective was actually surprised by how genuine and child-like her statement was, because of how intelligent rebecca is, the detective had started talking to her like an adult forgetting that she was dealing with a 9 year old
· Detective Killian "rebecca, i'm gonna ask you a question and i need you to answer me honestly, was rex at the mcintosh house that day"
· Becky(serious) "No, he was not, he has been out of town with his aunt all month, my mom had to call her to let him know his best friend had died"
· A sudden knock on the door
· The detective's captain opens the door
· Captain "There is someone here who wants a word with you"
· Detective Killian "tell them i'll be out in a bit"
· Captain "you're going to want to hear what she has to say"
· Out in the main room the detective is met with a little shaking monkey girl who is extremely nervous and desperately does not want to be there
· Miranda "are you detective killian, the lady who helps children and rape victims"
· Detective Killian (in a tone that she has a good idea what she is about to hear) "yes, is there something you want to report"
· The little monkey girl grabs hold of her tail too scared to speak but she shakes it off
· Miranda "My name is miranda tucker, and my father has been raping me for over three years"
SCENE 5
· the detective decides to send becky home for the day, she didn't have much more to ask her at the moment because the rex theory was her only theory
· as becky is walking out she sees miranda sitting at a desk on the other side of the squad room, a smile on her(becky's) face with a good idea why she was there and she was proud of her for finally standing up
· the detective brings miranda into the room
· Detective Killian "alright sweetie, you can start whenever your ready"
· Miranda (acts nervous but pushes through) "it started about a month before i went to camp a couple of years ago, i was supposed to stay with him for the summer, he said he wanted to play a game and at first it was fun, i love my daddy and he loves me... at least i think he does, at first he was really gentle but he started getting rougher, we were playing everyday until i went to camp, but when i got back things got worse"
· Detective Killian "how did it get worse?"
· Miranda "I made Friends"
· the detective has a look that says she is not going to like what she is about to hear
· Miranda "after i got back i told him how i made a bunch of new friends and they all live pretty close, he insisted that i invite them all over for a sleepover"
· Detective Killian "did you"
· Miranda (depressingly nodding her head) "mmhm, i thought he was going to play nice with them, i was wrong, he was awful to them, when it was time to go home becky saw how sad i was and told me i should call the police but i begged her not to, she ended up helping me to get the others to keep this all a secret, he still asks me to bring them but i tell him no and he punishes me"
· Detective Killian "you said your friend becky, that wouldn't happen to be Rebecca Hitoshi would it?"
· Miranda "yeah, why?"
· Detective Killian "Miranda, Who else did you invite that weekend"
· Miranda (plainly looking down) "Jules Krooby, Izzy Mcintosh and her brother Tay"
· the detective is in shock
· Detective Killian "when was the last time he hurt you"
· Miranda "a couple weeks ago, in an alley on the way to my house after he picked me up from izzy's"
· Detective Killian "so he molested you in public"
· Miranda (nods) "yeah, he never did anything like that before"
· Detective Killian "so he was acting different"
· Miranda "not really, he was drinking, but he always drinks, he was acting weird when he came out of iz's"
· Detective Killian "wait, he went in the house?"
· Miranda " he said he had to pee, he was only in there for a few minutes, he came running out and we drove off"
SCENE 6
· the next day the detective is convinced that they have enough evidence to arrest preston for the sexual assault but not enough for murder, she only has one option, to bring in her final witness, she brings Isabelle Mcintosh in for questioning
· when the mcintoshes arrive she tells isabelle to wait in the room so she can speak with her parents for a moment
· Detective Killian "Mr. and Mrs Mcintosh, after some investigation we have determined that little rebecca is not responsible for the death of your son"
· jason and brenda are both surprised but relieved
· Jason "then who is?"
· Detective Killian "we have a suspect but i can't say who it is at this time, but that leads to a bit of bad news"
· brenda can tell from the look on the detectives face that this is going to be bad, she grabs a hold of jason's arm
· Detective Killian "we believe that this person may have molested both of your children and a few of their friends"
· brenda just looses it
· Jason (in a very serious tone, comforting his wife) "why haven't you arrested this guy yet?"
· Detective Killian "we don't have enough evidence, but with your daughter's cooperation i believe we will"
· the detective sits down with izzy in the same room her friends have occupied over the last 18 hours
· Detective Killian "alright isabelle, i'm going to ask you a couple questions then you can go home"
· izzy nods in agreement
· Detective Killian "can you tell me what happened in your kitchen on sunday"
· Izzy "i don't know, when i went into the kitchen becky was standing there and tay was"
· izzy just looks to the ground
· Detective Killian "it's ok isabelle, this isn't about tay or even becky"
· Izzy "really"
· Izzy (confused because becky told her what happened before the EMS arrived) "what's it about"
· Detective Killian "has anyone ever tried to hurt you or tay?"
· Izzy "well, mommy would sometimes spank tay if he was being really really bad"
· Detective Killian "what can you tell be about Mr. Tucker"
· a look of death washes over izzy's face
· Izzy (looking back down speaking in a low tone) "i don't wanna talk about him"
· Detective Killian "why, did he hurt you?"
· izzy looked like she wanted to cry
· Detective Killian "isabelle, did he touch you?"
· Izzy (nods, tears flowing down her face) "i don't wanna get anyone in trouble"
· izzy gets up from her chair to walk around
· Detective Killian "none of your friends are going to get in any trouble"
· Izzy (half crying half yelling) " 'randa will, if he finds out he'll hit her again"
· the detective kneels down to be at eye level with her and puts a hand on her shoulder
· Detective Killian "i promise you, he will never hurt miranda or anyone else again"
· this calmed izzy down a little
· Detective Killian "now, i only have one more question and we'll be done"
· Izzy "ok"
· Detective Killian "On sunday night when Mr. Tucker picked up miranda, did he come into the house"
· Izzy "Yeah he asked if he could use the loo(she is australian afterall), i told him where it was then went to go change into my nighttime clothes when i heard a loud noise and Mr. Tucker was running out the doo..."
· izzy figured out what the detective was getting at and just looked down to the floor
· the detective had exactly what she needed
· Detective Killian "it's ok isabelle, were done, let's get you back to your parents"
SCENE 7
· upon entering the squad room they are met with mrs. mcintosh and only mrs mcintosh
· Detective Killian "Mrs. Mcintosh, where is your husband?"
· Brenda "he went to have a chat with preston"
· Detective Killian "and you just let him go"
· Brenda "i don't think you understand, i dropped the kids off that weekend, i willingly handed my kids to a pedophile, and i will sit here and stall you for as long as it takes for my husband to do what needs to be done"
· some time later over at preston's house, preston is sitting in a recliner watching tv, miranda is at her mom's house so he's home alone
· he hears what sounds like car tires screeching, but he ignores it, what he can't ignore is the series of loud pounding on his door that soon fallowed
· Preston (yelling from his chair) "Who the hell is it"
· Jason "it's jason"
· preston confused to why he would be here goes to open the door
· Preston "what brings you out here"
· preston opens the door just to be immediately punched in the face, preston doesn't fall from the punch
· preston had been drinking all day so he barely felt the punch
· Preston "ok, i probably deserved that, but just for laughs, do you mind telling me what it was for"
· jason had had a bit of time to calm down during the drive over but he was starting to get angry again
· Preston "oh wait, is this for pissing on your floor, i can pay to get that cleaned"
· jason hits him again, he falls backwards
· Preston (with a little chuckle) "y'know, i thought we were friends"
· Jason (kicking preston in the stomach as he's attempting to stand up) "Friends, you raped my children"
· Preston (holding his stomach but still has a slight smile) "oh, that, that was one time"
· jason kicks him in the face, blood flies from his nose
· Jason "you killed my son"
· preston spits some blood on the ground
· Preston "ugh, that i did not do"
· jason wasn't even listening anymore, he was seeing red
· he goes to kick preston again but preston grabs his leg pulling him to the ground
· preston gets on top of jason and starts choking him
· Preston "look, i'm sorry about your boy; i really am, he was really fun to play with"
· Jason (with what little air he can) "i'll kill you"
· Preston "you know, if you keep this up; i'm might go pay your daughter a visit, maybe you smoking hot wife as well"
· CLICK
· Detective Killian "get up"
· preston recognizes the sound, he lets go of jason who gasps for air and puts his hands in the air, he turns around to see detective killian pointing a gun right at him with two police officers behind her also pointing a gun at him
· Preston "shit, how long have you been standing there"
· one of the officers run behind preston and place his hands in handcuffs
· Detective Killian "long enough"
· she instructs the officers to take him out
· she goes to help jason from the ground
· Detective Killian "you know, i can arrest you for this"
· Jason (not looking at the detective) "will you?"
· Detective Killian (with a small smile) "no, just go home, your family needs you"
· Jason "thank you"
Epilogue
· it didn't take long for the news to spread
· tavindale was the center of a media outburst that the small quite community was not used to
· izzy was sitting alone in their treehouse in her backyard, she was looking at a picture of her and tay at their last birthday party, a single tear rolling down her cheek
· she hears a knock from the door
· izzy tries to ignore it
· Jules "iz, are you in there, your mum said you were up here"
· Izzy "go away"
· Miranda "izzy, please open the door"
· izzy gets up to open the door
· they all hug eachother supplementing their hellos
· Miranda (almost tearing up during their hug) "i'm so sorry about tay, i'm so sorry what i put you through"
· Izzy (feeling a little guilty) "do you know what's gonna happen to your dad"
· Miranda "my mom's lawyer says because of what he did to us and to tay, he's not getting out, i'll never see him again"
· Izzy (feeling even guiltier) "oh, randa, i'm so sorry"
· Miranda (with a smile) "don't be, i'm not"
· Izzy (confused) "why?"
· Miranda "because i'm free"
· izzy starts to feel less guilty about her role in blaming preston for tay's death, but she's gonna keep that to herself
· izzy looks over at jules who is looking off to the side with a smile on her face
· "ahem" comes a voice from behind izzy
· izzy's eye shot wide and she spins around revealing that her best friend becky has been standing there for some time
· the two friends slowly walked closer to eachother, neither knew what to say
· the silence is eventually broken when becky whispers "i'm sorry"
· that was all izzy needed, she grabbed hold of becky and started crying, almost as hard as the day tay died, but these were not just tears of sadness they were tears of happiness, knowing that even though the road ahead was going to be difficult, she knew she had her friends to help her through it
