I had just gotten about half way through my hike and was on my back when a particular rustling of leaves above me caught my attention. My perky sensitive ears flicked and pivoted as I tried to find the source of the sound amongst the trees surrounding me. A fluttering of wings startled me briefly as a small bird took off out of one of the trees and with a content wiggle of my nose and a relieved sigh I turned to keep heading down the path, that's when I saw him. I nearly bumped into his head, I stammered with a sharp bweep and fell back into a bed of coils. Out of panic I began to try and scramble free but that only made things worse. The snake wasn't going to let its prey escape that easily and before I knew it I was tightly bound in loops of powerful muscle, quickly stifling most of my resistance, with the rest being choked out of me as the long snake squeezed around my small body. I felt the world flip over as my body was easily held aloft by the powerful serpent. I had closed my eyes when I was dragged up in the air, doing my best to try and think of any way out of the beasts coils but the relentless squeezing and the sound of a gentle soft hiss coaxed my eyes open. His head was hanging inches from my face and the last thing I saw was the burst of color from the snakes eyes. He had caught his prey. |
