Adult Blaze: Head & Eyes pt.2
Blaze the Cat is the second Sonic character I wanted to design as an adult. I not only took steps to alter her physical appearance, but also her signature clothing. The process was generally easy and only took me a couple of months to reach the desired result.

Panel 1: The official shape of her head displays complying to the rules of the Sega-Style and youth. Obviously this template will conflict with my idea of making her an adult so this needs to change.

Panel 2: In Panel 2, a narrow shape automatically adds maturity and makes it easy to add a neck.

Panels 3 & 4: In Panel 3, I examined 2 facial features of Blaze; the fuzz and the muzzle. The fuzz is very reminiscent of a typical cartoon cat, which usually place emphasis of its cuteness and face in general. I think the fuzz can also represent her controlling fire, especially if looking at it in certain angles like the side. The muzzle is not only faithful to the Sonic-style, but gives the impression it is skin. At first, I kept these features; wanting to maintain the key aspects of Blaze's design. However, I personally was not happy with it and wanted to change it. The fuzz won't perfectly represent Blaze's maturity, especially in adulthood and makes me think she is whimsical. With the muzzle, perhaps it is just very smooth and trimmed, but since I was thinking of a cat and of course Big the Cat, I thought it was odd Blaze's muzzle doesn't have some furry detail.

In Panel 4, the plan is to get of the fuzz on the sides of her head and add some furryness to her muzzle.

Panel 5: The result came from looking at pictures at cartoon cats and also thinking about a book on cats I read when I was little. It's unknown what specific cat breed Blaze is, but based on her fur and her tail, it does narrow down the list. I remember certain breeds were considered regal and it made me think of Blaze, so making the fur on her head completely smooth made sense. The small furryness came from pictures of cartoon cats and generally thinking about other Sonic characters who have them. It was the alternate way of displaying the feline features since I got rid of the fuzz.

Interesting read. I don't think that making her muzzle be more furry is out of the question because there s Big the cat whose design clearly shows that it is fur and not skin like with Sonic. I guess ST used the normal muzzle design to make Blaze look more feminine but at the same time it visually looks the same as a hedgehog muzzle. I agree it looks better with the added fur, plus the arrangement you give it along with the fuzz of her head makes the design look more reagal indeed.

Can't wait to see your take on the body type and clothes. ^_^
