Miles Prower- En Orange

Klonoa Kazeno- En Grey
set default image size: small | medium | wide
I think this is part of a series I......never finished. Or just got sidetracked with years ago and never wanted to. Eh.  But more of that art of mine that I haven't done since the start of the new millennium.  So it's been ust about 8 to 9 years since I drew anything new. ... Ouch.

But that aside, in my universe, there's a "Tails" and a "Miles" Prower as separate beings.
Her outfit apparently having more buckles on it and that Ribbon Badge from Sonic Adventure. (I thought it was cute at the time.) And unlike Tails, she has BLUE EYES instead of brown and that bright yellow orange that Tails was in those games.

I should get around to expanding on that and drawing the comic for it like I intended to...

And more closet digging...

That's more of a yellow than an orange.

Here: http://info.sonicretro.org/images/6/64/SSS_SONIC32.png

The yellow is only used as a highlight, he's more orange than yellow, with some red shading. See how they use more hues than shades? It's less monotone, I recommend attempting to apply that kind of shading as it makes things a bit more interesting.

Right now, this puts me in mind of this: http://info.sonicretro.org/images/7/71/Riders_tails.jpg

Although yours uses more vibrant colors, the monotone shading is present, and he's more yellow than orange.

Alternatively: http://info.sonicretro.org/images/6/62/Advance3_tails.png

The shading in this design is less varied than the classic airbrush design, however, notice how his fur, at its lightest, is still recognizably orange, and how the shading is heavily blended as opposed to being very bold in its boundary. Using a blur tool on the shading is an easy fox. (Just make sure to highlight the area with a magic wand so you don't soften the wrong parts of the picture.) Personally, I would't recommend using gray to shade him like this official drawing does if only to attempt that less monotone form of shading. It's pretty obvious that gray is a shade of white, but what about blue? Or yellow? Or pink? All of these could work as shading, taking into consideration what looks best with the picture as a whole, obviously.

Ah.. people taking the time to look at my artwork. Even if I did it more or less 9 years ago. Seriously. I'll give you credit for making it seem like I did something CORRECTLY long long ago.

You're right. It probably IS a yellow more than orange. On the Sonic 2 box art, it was an orange and yet in Sonic Adventure it was damn near yellow. I figure I'd find the median between the two and go with that.  But that was a time in which I was more concerned about having fun drawing than colors and what not. I figure hey, if you can't enjoy what you draw, then why do it ya know?

That Sonic Advance shading.... eh. Not too much my thing. Call me old fashioned by I like that old MS Paint/ Correl Draw way of putting through things. Sure I could use Photoshop, but it just didn't give the same sense of satisfaction. (It's like mountain climbing. Sure I could do it with fancy tools and all, but doing it with wrist and ankle weights? Now there's a challenge.)

Don't get me wrong here. The critique is appreciated as it's saying something I could have done way back then and might try later on, as I need more people to tell me what to do and the like as it WOULD help me get off my ass and actually do something new. But part of it will still be based on what I'm comfortable with and my own personal preference of "what works" and what I like as I'll be the one coloring it.

Still, damn glad you took the time to sit down and write it out, and I can respect that. As it's pretty ballsy to do these day since a LOT of people throw bitch fits when they have what they did put up to question. (Plus this is old as hell anyway.) So here.

I have to agree that there are a lot of people who will cry whenever someone tries to explain what someone could do better. I really appreciate your overall response to it, veing that I'm pretty used to the whiny responses. (Though that has yet to happen on this site.)

I can understand liking the cel-shading way more. It's pretty common in pixel art, although there are different methods for shading in that...

But anyway, I have to point out that even though in Adventure he was yellow-ish, one of the NPCs actually said he was orange. I think the reason he appeared so bright in that game was a flawed issue with the lighting engine (considering he was orange in SA2) and today, his color is derived from newer artists getting the wrong impression from the flaws of SA1, especially since his 2D art from that game is orange. But this is just that's just me being really in-depth about it at this point. :V

I have to agree that the Advance shading isn't very appealing, I don't understand why they needed to change from the older method of shading to the newer method, aside from their own Japanese manuals exhibiting quite a few characteristics of the new style.
