And here's another pic I commissioned when I found out that Danielle Sands and her friend with here were both Mortal Kombat fans. (I follow the lore, personally). So we vasically talked about a joke OC I made. You can contact Danielle Sands at www.sketchingsands.com
Walden was a Mortal Kombat OC made purely as a joke. People who have been following the series since at least the third game have no doubt heard of the "abomination" that is Kurtis Stryker, A plainclothes cop who first made his appearance in MK3. The common complains range from being badly unbalanced to just sticking out like a sore thumb among the more overtly supernatural cast.
Just for silliness, after the release of the 2011 Mortal Kombat game, I made this guy, pretty much to make a character who would fit worse for the franchise than Stryker. Then it snowballed. It massively snowballed. To the point where I imagined just what if he was a fixture in the franchise and appeared in every game as a character who was never really given any chance to play a big role in the alternate kanon. With that in mind, I actually wrote a large set of loose noted detailing Walden's history all the way from the original Mortal Kombat to Mortal Kombat X, though not actually defining his part in the story modes (largely because he's essentially "demoted to extra.")
Walden comes from Animat, the Toon Realm, and is a bit of a wanderer who got mixed up in the Mortal Kombat tournaments by following strange energies that habe attracted him to the events and gotten him mixed in. It could be a matter of destiny, but he would not know if it is for sure (and if it is, well, let's just say it won't be a very good destiny). In fact, all that's really gotten accomplished for the most part is becoming an ally to the Earthrealm (albeit one that is more tolerated than actually appreciated).
After the events of MKX, with the way things look, an all-out war of Earthrealm attacking Outworld, with Liu Kang's forces from the Netherrealm possibly poised to strike as well, Walden could inadvwertenly winf up bringing his homerealm into the war as well!
His fighting style is influenced by cartoon comedy antics, including such tools of the trade as mallets, anvils, exploding cigars (hence his MK1 fatality) and other things like that.
This is his MK 1 outfit. If you want to see my notes, then if I get enough requests, I can post them up. However, they would be just a loose collection of notes.
Strangely, the few folks I have talked about him to seem to think that he's still a better fit into the franchise than Meat (who was more fleshed out in Mortal Kombat Armageddon.) I'm not sure if I should be impressed that Ed Boon could out-wierd a toon without knowing it or if I should be impressed that somehow a toon still checks out. I am suspecting that I should feel the the former.
