Yes and then some, though the caliber(size) of the needle makes a difference. When I was a teenager, I caught a horrid case of stomach upset so bad I couldn't even keep plain water down for more than a minute or two; it was so bad I went to the hospital and was nearly put on an I.V. so I wouldn't dehydrate. My doctor gave me a special concentrated injection of Gravol- in my butt cheek. I was still and brave from the waist down, but had to pound the bed with my fist to get through the pain, and clench my jaw to keep from crying out. My eyes were winced shut tightly, and my butt ached in that area for the next day or two. If the injection hadn't made me so high I was laughing at trees we drove past on the way home, I would never have wanted to sit in the car seat. Ouch! I've had needles from my doctors in my shoulder, elbow pit, hand and thigh(I had an illness as a child), but the buttocks is the worst!

We weren't told, and I was too out of it to remember. But some needles are bigger than others, depending on what is being injected. The pain level is probably also a personal thing.

Needles are measured by gauge, from 26 - 16 most commonly (although 1 gauge is a thing, and is wider than your pinkie finger). From the looks of the art it might be around a 20 gauge needle, and anything in the butt can hurt :p
