Yeah, dwarf women having beards is canon in the Silmarillion and in several other fantasy works (Discworld; the D&D settings Greyhawk, Mystara, and the first edition of Forgotten Realms - retconned out for later editions). I like it because it makes dwarves into more than "short humans who dig" by making them just a little bit more alien.
