6/24/990AD Dad promised to go hiking with me, but blew me off again, due to his work. I hate science, I loathe it!
Lucca has been one of my absolute most favourite characters in any RPG of any time ever, ever since I played Chrono Trigger well after its initial release on an emulator because I was never lucky enough to own it when it came out. Even if I did own it back in 1995, I wouldn't have understood the sheer depth of character and emotion that had been put into that game, and what a great story it told from start to finish. What starts out as a typical JRPG ends as a masterpiece.

Lucca in particular is my favourite. I like her. She's smart and a little spunky, but by far the most impacting part of her character is her motivations behind being the scientist and inventor she is. That's the thing I never would have understood as a kid.
Showing rather than telling, Chrono Trigger sets up Lucca's past in a powerful side-story connected to a side quest in the game. It reveals one very tragic instance where Lucca's view on science and technology changed, becoming a very strong motivation. The side-story could end for better or for worse... but "for worse" is actually an instance of "yet the future refused to change."
And yet for all her reasons to loathe science and the people who perpetuate it, Lucca does it for the betterment of everyone. While cynical of technology and of people, she recognizes the utter good a strong mind can accomplish and strives for it - at least that's what I think.

Lucca Ashtear. Just one small part of one very amazing game.
