A fat commission for Neohedgie
I had a lot of fun with this. I don't get to do backgrounds all that much, so it's nice to do them for a change. I've been told I'm very good at backgrounds, though in practice I find I'm still really finding my voice with them... I haven't gathered enough influence to really feel like I have a style with environments yet. In any case, I based the busy, mechanical background of this off Toriyama artwork. Originally, the electronics had an older beige look evoking 80s era electronics, but Neohedgie decided it blended in to his tummy too much.
Of note is that this mostly lacks perspective - The lines are entirely perpendicular horizontal or vertical lines, and there's no actual horizon line. The exception to this is the angled monitor, which uses one-point perspective. In hindsight, I should have also given the angled bed the same treatment, but it's just estimated. It was a neat experiment.
On colour, I want to bring attention to the black. Originally, the base of the bedframe and most of the electronics that aren't blue were a gray similar to the tubing. I found that this dis-balanced the picture a lot; the black was all situated toward the open wall on the left side. I added black to the electronics on the right and replaced some of the bedframe colour, and now the black should hopefully frame Neohedgie instead of distract from him.
