In the middle of one of planet Ishia's frozen plains stands the Hishakk. Its name is the Ishigan word for 'terror'. It is said that it was created as a weapon by a long extinct race, and abandoned when they saw its power couldn't be harnessed.
It appears that fear is an inherent feeling to all living species with a certain degree of individuality, and the Hishakk feeds on it. It is able to produce horrible hallucinations and nightmares to any being within a certain distance, regardless of its species. It uses a heuristic process, adequating the visions to perfectly fit its victim deepest horrors.
The Hishakk is fully conscious of its condition. Lacking any form of sensorial organs, its only way to understand its surroundings is by analyzing its victims' minds as it tortures them. As such, it is deeply thankful to them, and therefore also terribly ashamed and hateful of its own condition.
As an adulthood rite, the young Ishigans from nearby tribes must get close to it, once in their lives.
