If that is a Katana, that would make the character small in size, if you use it as a size comparator. That is why I asked, I do own both in metal and can relate to the size difference in both.
Though in Equestria killing is done to a minimum, there are characters with metal weapons. This would be an unfair advantage against this character.

There are many Japanese swords many people call a Katana. But a true Katana has a distinctive size and shape. Wooden blades are usually known as practice blades. This one is straight, making it a Ninato, which is part of the Katana Class blades but many would argue it is in its own class. And there is nothing wrong with that.
My statement was comparing the Pony size to the Sword size. If the sword is this long, compared to the pony, then the pony must be large or small.
