Or are you refering to the three or so games where it unlocked battle mode

My bomberman knowlage is dated but from the ones i played at friends it was either unlocked via cheat or though normal gameplay

most Bomberman games I played on the SNES or GameBoy and onward had it standard, so I'm not sure if the other console versions of it had the menu to unlock the actual battle mode

5656 does a few things in Bomberman GB it unlocks Battle Mode. In Super Bomberman entering 5656 would give you Shrunken Bomberman. I like the game series its fun :)
